(PMF)was born following the new spiritual development in the work of the Lord in our Country after the Second World War. In 1952, a small group of faculty and students at FEBIAS (Far Eastern Bible Institute and Seminary) met once a week in a classroom praying for a Filipino Missionary Organization through which some of them can be sent out as Pioneer Missionaries of Unreached Areas in the Philippi
nes. The idealism that Filipino themselves are in the best position to reach other Filipinos for Christ somehow influenced the vision for a purely Filipino Missionary Organization. Eventually, before the year was over the first Board of Directors were elected by those who attended these prayer meetings. They later called the organization the Philippine Missionary Fellowship. As early as 1954, PMF sent out dedicated men and women with a passion for the Lord’s Work to remote areas in the Country. Some find their way in the islands of Romblon, Mindanao, particularly the provinces of Surigao del Sur and Surigao del Norte and in the province of Cavite. The goal was to plant Evangelical Churches not only in the lowlands but among the Tribal people like the Aetas in Zambales, Mamamwas and Manobos in Surigao and Agusan, and the Negritos in Aklan. After several years, more Missionaries volunteered to work in the pioneering Ministry in spite of severe financial difficulties. They went out with “NO PROMISED SUPPORT BUT ONLY WITH MUCH PRAYERS”. It was until 1956 that the Mission was legally grecognized by the Securities and Exchange Commission.Compared with other Missionaries under established Mission Agencies, PMF Missionaries did not have any “regular support”. All had to “live by faith” in the literal sense of the word. By and large, however, each Missionary took care of raising his/her own support. In 1956, each missionary received P3.00 per month and in 1968, P35.00. Until at present, our workers are still receiving monthly allowances way below poverty line. But the work of the Lord grew unabated.Basically, PMF concentrates on planting churches in unreached areas. An unreached Area to the mission means a community that has 500 to 1,000 families without any Evangelical witness evidence by the absence of an evangelical church. Therefore, we are in the rural areas and among the mountain Tribal Communities that have not been touched by any Missionary activities. It is only just recently did we include the unreached communities in the limits of the cities in our missionary expansion program.Target areas are identified and surveyed first before any Missionary is sent to plant a new church. A Christian Survey is used to assess the openness of the place of the Gospel. Gospel, tracts distribution, house to house evangelism, one-on-one evangelism and mass evangelism are employed to have new contracts. A Local Church is said to be organized when they have already 25 baptized believers, have functional Church Board, with regular church services and with or without church building. They are also expected to start their own Missionary Program once they become an established church.Generally, PMF established churches are doing their own Missionary program by establishing Daughter Churches and Extensions. On the average, an established church has one organized daughter church and two extensions.
