His Eminence Jaime Cardinal Sin described the EDSA Shrine as Holy Ground when another miracle, the second peaceful People Power took place in January 2001. With the help of the Blessed Mother and Santo Niño, the people’s prayer for a moral leadership was answered. A Holy Ground marker was inaugurated at the EDSA Shrine on February 25, 2001 during the 15th anniversary of the first EDSA People Power.

At the foot of the Cross, Jesus entrusted Mary to His beloved disciple, and in that sacred moment, she became not only the Mother of John, but the Mother of the whole Church. A mother who stays, who listens, who comforts, and who silently leads every wounded heart back to her Son.

Mary teaches us that true love remains faithful even in suffering. When someone we love is suffering and we don't know what to say - we stay. When our own crosses feel unbearable and we want to run - we stay. When the Church, our community, our family is broken and imperfect - we stay.

Today, let us remember that we are never alone. We have a Mother who walks with us, prays for us, and constantly points us toward Jesus. In her maternal heart, we find both comfort and challenge - to love without limits, to remain when it hurts, and to hope when all seems lost.

Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us, that we may love the way you loved, all the way to the end.

Saint Rita of Cascia stands as a quiet flame of faith amid life’s most unyielding trials. Her story reminds us that holiness is not born from ease but from surrender, the kind that transforms pain into prayer and impossibility into trust. In her steadfast love for Christ, she found meaning in wounds, peace in forgiveness, and strength in perseverance.

When we look at her serene face, we glimpse the mystery of grace that blooms even in suffering, like the rose she holds, delicate yet defiant against thorns. Saint Rita teaches that faith is not the absence of struggle but the courage to believe that every cross, carried with love, becomes a doorway to divine hope.

Today, on her Memorial, may the life of Saint Rita of Cascia inspire us to meet our own trials with gentleness, patience, and unwavering trust in God. May we remember that His grace is often revealed most powerfully in moments of weakness, and that every burden carried with love can become a path toward healing, hope, and deeper faith.
