The Time When Our World Began
(Ang Tion Sang Nagsugod ang Amon Kalibutan)
Together with selected art residency platforms from around the world, Green Papaya Art Projects joins EARTH RISING: Messages from the Pale Blue Dot organized and curated by Artangel (UK) with The Time When Our World Began. EARTH RISING is a digital broadcast of new audio and digital works by artists, poets, writers and musicians. With the theme “how does one go about reintroducing humanity to itself?”
EARTH RISING is inspired by the Golden Record, which was launched into the solar system in 1977. It was an audio/visual time capsule of Earth, presenting carefully selected sounds and images to other life forms across space. EARTH RISING keeps its intentions on the ground, exploring the complexity and depth of what it means to be human.
A concept album in which artists, writers, poets and musicians hold a mirror to humanity. Comprised of three volumes, EARTH RISING: Messages from the Pale Blue Dot presents a cross-section of the human experience. The album consists of new audio works that express our boundless imagination and longing to connect, our contradictions and compromises, and the enduring will to survive, and create meaning in precarious times. Volume I is released across digital platforms today, June 20, 2025.
Volume II of the album, to be released at a later date, will carry the audio version of The Time When Our World Began, currenty a work-in-progress. The title is a line lifted from the opening chant of Tarangban (Enchanted Island), Episode 1 of Hinilawod. Hinilawod is one of the longest epic poems of Panay Bukidnon, the indigenous people living in the interior mountains of Panay Island in the Philippines. The Time When Our World Began is a testimony to the Panay Bukidnon’s self determination to save their dying traditions and keep their culture alive.
Our deepest gratitude to the Panay Bukidnon elders, cultural masters and community in Garangan (Calinog, Iloilo) for their support.
