🎊HAPPY FEAST DAY🎊
Today, we celebrate the Feast of Mary, Help of Christians, Patroness of the Salesian Family, Titular of the Sisters of Marie-Auxiliatrice (ma)! 💙💐

"The Feast of Mary Help of Christians is celebrated on May 24.

The tradition of this advocation goes back to 1571, when the whole of Christendom was saved by Mary Help of Christians when Catholics throughout Europe prayed the Rosary. The great battle of Lepanto occurred on October 7th 1571. For this reason this date has been chosen as the feast of the Holy Rosary. In 1573 Pope Pius V instituted the feast in thanksgiving for the decisive victory of Christianity over Islamism.

Near the end of the 17th century, Emperor Leopold I of Austria took refuge in the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians at Pasau, when 200,000 Ottoman Turks besieged the capital city of Vienna, but a great victory occurred thanks to Mary Help of Christians: on September 8th, Feast of Our Lady's Birthday, plans were drawn for the battle. On September 12, Feast of the Holy Name of Mary, Vienna was finally freed through the intercession of Mary Help of Christians. All Europe had joined with the Emperor crying out "Mary, Help!" and praying the Holy rosary.

In 1809, Napoleon's men entered the Vatican, arrested Pius VII and brought him in chains to Grenoble, and eventually Fontainbleau. His imprisonment lasted five years. The Holy Father vowed to God that , if he were restored to the Roman See, he would institute a special feast in honor of Mary. Military reverses forced Napoleon to release the Pope, and on May 24th 1814, Pius VII returned in triumph to Rome. Twelve months later, the Pope decreed that the feast of Mary Help of Christians, be kept on the 24th of May.

St. John Bosco (1815 - 1888) was a dynamic priest who founded the Salesian Order in the XIX century in Italy. His many prophetic dreams, beginning at age nine, guided his ministry and gave insights on future events.

On May 14, 1862, Don Bosco dreamed about the battles the Church would face in the latter days. In his dream, the Pope of those days anchors the 'ship' of the Church between two pillars, one with a statue of Mary (Auxilium Christianorum or 'Help of Christians') and the other with a large Eucharistic Host

St. John Bosco wrote about his congregation, the Salesians: "The principal objective is to promote veneration of the Blessed Sacrament and devotion to Mary Help of Christians. This title seems to please the august Queen of Heaven very much."

The Salesian Sisters of St John Bosco or Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, are the sister order of the Salesians of Don Bosco.

St. John Bosco, himself, on June 9 1868, dedicated to Our Lady Help of Christians, the mother church of his congregation at Turin (Italy). The Salesian Fathers and their Sisters have carried the devotion to their numerous establishments."

🎊Happy Foundation Anniversary🎊
Let us celebrate today the 195th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Canossian Sons of Charity (FdCC) 🥳🎉

"The foundation of the Sons of Charity was already foreseen in the initial plan presented by Maddalena to the bishop of Verona, Mons. G. Andrea Avogadro. Indeed, that Plan had first of all described the structure and work of the male Institute. In the same way the feminine one had to be structured, with the necessary adaptations, obviously. The male foundation project was to serve as a model for the female foundation.

For this he had contacts in Bergamo with some priests gathered around the canon Benaglio who gathered and instructed boys and young people in the old seminary. To them he sent the Plan in its final draft. At the same time in Milan, in the parish of S. Stefano, he had favored the birth of the Oratory of S. Ambrogio, where priests and laity carried out activities in favor of children and young people.

For a long time he was in contact with Don Antonio Rosmini, an eminent thinker and later founder of the Institute of Charity, whose sister Margherita had become a Daughter of Charity. In the end he also collaborated with Don Antonio Provolo, later founder of the Company of Mary for the education of the deaf and dumb. God's plans for the two men, so eminent for holiness of life, were different. Maddalena had to take note. A last attempt was made by her in Venice, where a house of the women's institute had been founded since 1812, with Don Francesco Luzzo, professor of grammar in the partriarchal seminary, collaborator with the Cavanis counts in their Schools of Charity. The Oratory of S. Lucia began with him on May 23, 1831, and with it the male institute."

🎊Happy Foundation Anniversary🎊
Let us celebrate today the 96th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Mercedarian Missionaries of Berriz (MMB) 🥳🎉

The Mercedarian Missionaries of Bérriz has a history that goes back to the years 1540 to 1541, when, under the initiative of a priest from Bérriz, Don Martin de Aguirresacona, and three simple women, the Beaterio of Vera-Cruz was founded in Berriz, north of Spain. The Beaterio remained linked to the ancient Mercedarian Order founded by St. Peter Nolasco in 1218 in response to an urgent need of the times: the Christians who were in circumstances which were forcing them to renounce their faith in order to obtain their freedom.

Throughout those four centuries, there were always strong women of deep faith who knew how to continue the work of what was originally the small Beaterio and later the Monastery (1740). The decisive moment of its transformation into a Pontifical Missionary Institute came with the approval by the Holy See in 1930.

Blessed Margarita Maria Lopez de Maturana initiated the change from a Monastic to a Missionary community. For the Mercedarian Missionaries, she stands before them as an evangelical woman, strong, open, adventurous and steadfast. Her profound experience of Christ and her readiness to read the signs of the times in society and in the Church continue to be sources of inspiration and encouragement for them. They are now present in all the five continents of the world.

🎊 Happy Arrival Anniversary🎊
Today, we are celebrating the 56th Anniversary of the Arrival of the Mercedarian Missionaries of Berriz (MMB) in the Philippines! 🥳🎉🇵🇭

"The Mercedarian Missionaries of Berriz, an International Religious Institute of Women dedicated for the integral liberation of all peoples, came to the Philippines in 1970. With the ardent desire to actualize Mother Margarita’s dream of becoming near to Jesus, the MMB wanted to emerge themselves in an apostolate which can best foster genuine freedom from enslaving forces of all sorts ― poverty, ignorance, and violence ― that is Education.

In the PHILIPPINES, our presence is a journey of Life, Faith and Hope centered in Christ as the source and Mary as our model. Accompanied by the spirit of Mother Margarita Maturana, we strongly feel the liberating presence of God with and among us. This experience impels us to be in solidarity with our sisters and brothers living at the brink of life. God calls us to be “women of God, sign of Mercy for all Humanity”. Jesus is calling us to continue His LOVE and MERCY with the spirit of our redemptive charism."

🎊HAPPY FEAST DAY🎊
We are celebrating today the Feast of Blessed Elena Guerra, Foundress of the Oblate Sisters of the Holy Spirit (OSS)! 🥳🎉

"Elena Guerra was born in Lucca, Italy on June 23, 1835 of very pious parents, in an austere environment of rigid discipline and in an era when education of women was limited to household arts, painting and music. Elena did not allow these obstacles to hinder her from obtaining a wide culture which was not common among women of her time. She extended great efforts in acquiring, by herself, knowledge in science and letters and the arts. It can be said that her extraordinary intellectual attitude of spirit not only saved her from pitfalls common to adolescence but also oriented her to correspond generously to God’s call and design of love for her.

The desire to dedicate herself to apostolic activity had already inflamed Elena her youth. Gathering together the young girls of her neighborhood, she organized unions which she called “ Spiritual Friendship”, “The Living Star” and the “The Militia of the Holy Spirit”. These were sparks she ignited that brightened later into fire that was the Congregation she founded to inflame the world with Divine Love.

Elena live her spiritual mission with such intensity as to move with repeated letters the Holy Father Leo XIII to issue the Brief Provida Matris Caritate (May 5, 1895) and the Encyclical Divinum Illud Munus (May 9, 1897) to invite the faithful to pray to the Holy Spirit. A few years before her death on April 11, 1914 the Congregation she founded was recognized by the Church with a Decree of Praise date May 6, 1911.

On April 26, 1959 in Basilica of St. Peter, the Holy Pope John XXIII proclaimed Elena Guerra Blessed distinguishing her as the “Apostle of the Holy Spirit."

🎊Happy Foundation Anniversary🎊
Let us celebrate today the 86th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Apostles of the Holy Rosary (AHR) 🥳🎉

"The Congregation of the Apostle Sisters of the Holy Rosary was born in Torre Annunziata on May 22, 1940, by Mother Remigia Guercia.

The founding charism is Marian-missionary, inspired by the Virgin of the Holy Rosary.

The sisters are formed mainly for the care of minors, to whom the foundress has always given her support. In fact, after the war, the houses of the Apostles of the Holy Rosary were full of orphaned and abandoned children. Later then, thinking of also giving training to the little ones, it was decided to establish schools of all types and levels.

Currently the Apostles no longer manage schools, but still operate in the sector of minors through family homes.

The community of Alberi, commissioned by Archbishop Mons. Cece, was born as a response to the welcoming charism that has always distinguished the Congregation. The nuns, in fact, collaborate in the thoughtful welcome of the guests and in the animation of the House."

🎊HAPPY FEAST DAY🎊
We are celebrating today the Feast of Blessed Maria Domenica Brun-Barbantini, Foundress of the Sisters-Ministers of the Infirm of Saint Camillus de Lellis (MI)! 🥳🎉

"MARIA DOMENICA BRUN BARBANTINI was born on January 17, 1789 in Lucca, Italy. She got married at the age of 22 to Salvatore Barbantini who died a sudden death barely six months after their marriage leaving her heavy with child. Lorenzo, the only fruit of their marriage and the “greatest treasure” of her life, was also taken away from her at the age of eight. This was an excruciating experience which led Maria Domenica to a full realization and acceptance of the mysterious plans of God for her. As a woman of strong faith, exceptional courage, and extraordinary compassion for others, most especially the sick and the poor she totally dedicated herself to their service. It was through this strong commitment that God chose her to found a new Congregation – the Sisters Ministers of the Sick of St. Camillus (the Camillian Sisters). On May 22, 1868, she died and left behind an inspiring memory and an exemplary holy life, dedicated fully to the sick and the needy. The Church recognized her as a model for all Christians and on May 7, 1995, she was beatified by Pope John Paul II in Rome, Italy."

🎊HAPPY FEAST DAY🎊
We are celebrating today the Feast of Saint Joaquina de Vedruna, Foundress of the Carmelite Sisters of Charity of Vedruna (CCV)! 🥳🎉

"Born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1783, Joachima was the fifth of the eight children of the aristocratic Vedruna family. When she was twelve she wanted to be a cloistered Carmelite nun; but at sixteen she married a young lawyer, Theodore de Mas, who had been thinking of becoming a Franciscan. Both joined the Third Order Secular of St Francis. During the seventeen years of her married life, Joachima was a beloved wife and the devoted mother of eight children, the last of who was born in 1815.

When Napoleon invaded Spain, Theodore served in the Spanish army, after he had moved his family to Vich. When the French troops arrived there, Joachima had to flee with her children; but after the war she returned to that city, the birthplace of her husband.

Joachima and Theodore were both members of the Third Order fraternity at the Capuchin church in Vich. She was only thirty-three when Theodore died in 1816 at the age of forty-two. Though her old desire to enter a religious community was still strong in her, Saint Joachima de Vedruna had duties to perform towards her children; and so, for the first seven years of her widowhood she took care of her children. At the same time, she led an austere life, wearing the Tertiary habit as her ordinary dress, spending much time in prayers, and waiting on the sick in the hospital at Vich.

One day in 1820, as Saint Joachima de Vedruna was passing the Capuchin church, her mount refused to go farther. She went into the church and entered the confessional of Father Stephen of Olot, a noted preacher and director of souls. He told her that she was not to join an existing religious order but to found a new community which would devote itself to teaching in schools and to nursing the sick.

In 1823, two of her children married and one of them took the two remaining girls into their home. Joachima was now free to carry out her plans. Father Stephen assisted her in laying the foundations for a Franciscan sisterhood of the Third Order Regular and drafted the constitutions. The new sisterhood was formally established in 1826 in Joachima’s home with six members, but not as a Franciscan community. Bishop Paul Corcuera of Vich, a Carmelite, made it a congregation of the Carmelite Third Order Regular and called it the Carmelite Sisters of Charity. Later St Anthony Mary Claret revised their rule and constitutions. In 1850 these received the approval of the bishop and in 1880 the approbation of the Holy See.

Though a hospital was opened at Tarrega a few months after its founding in 1826, the new sisterhood had to contend with many difficulties during the first years. During the Carlist Wars, Mother Joachima was put in a prison for five days in 1837; and she, with some of her sisters, was an exile in Perpignan, France, for three years until the fall of 1843. Converts with schools and hospitals were then established all over Catalonia.

Sickness compelled Mother Joachima to resign the superiorship in 1851; and during the last four years of her life, a gradual slow paralysis caused her to die by inches. Saint Joachima de Vedruna was seventy-one when she died in 1854. In 1940, the Carmelite Sisters of Charity had 2,000 members in 150 convents, of which 135 were in Spain and 10 in Spanish America. Mother Joachima, who attained a high degree of prayer, trust in God, and selfless charity, was enrolled in the ranks of the Blessed in 1940."
