RENEWING OUR MIND, RESTORING OUR HEART
Sermon Highlights & Reflection
"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."
— Romans 12:2
"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh."
— Ezekiel 36:26
🚨 I. Our Problem: Conformed Minds and Hardened Hearts
A. What We Were Before Christ
"So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed."
— Ephesians 4:17-19
B. The Danger of Staying Unchanged
As a result of staying unchanged, our conformity to the world brings emptiness, confusion, and distance from God.
🛠️ II. God's Solution: A Renewed Mind and a Transforming Heart
A. Renewing the Mind: Changing How We Think
• The Source of Renewal: God's Word is our ultimate source (Hebrews 4:12).
• The Power of the Word: God's Word judges our thoughts and attitudes; it is the vital tool that changes the heart.
• Our Goal: We need to align ourselves completely with God's will.
B. Transforming the Heart: Changing What You Love and Desire
We often face a spiritual battle within ourselves:
"I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do, I do not do, but what I hate, I do... For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing."
— Romans 7:15, 19
But God promises a beautiful exchange and a fresh start:
"A new heart also will give you, and a new spirit will put within you, and I will take away the Stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh."
— Ezekiel 36:26
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
— 2 Corinthians 5:17
How do we guard and draw closer to this transformation?
"Ang puson mo'y ingatan mabuti at alagaan, pagkat uyan ang siyang bukal ng buhay mong tinataglay."
— Proverbs 4:23
"Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded."
— James 4:8
The result of a transformed heart is supernatural fruit:
"But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control."
— Galatians 5:22-23
🌱 Practical Steps to Live a Transformed Life:
1. Immerse in Scripture daily.📖
2. Pray continually.🙏
3. Replace lies with truth.🛡️
4. Live in community.👥
5. Take action immediately.🏃♂️
🔥 III. The Power Behind Transformation: The Holy Spirit
• We cannot change ourselves. Only God can do this work in us.
"Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord Almighty."
— Zechariah 4:6
• Our responsibility: We simply need to cooperate and yield to the work of the Holy Spirit.
🎯 Conclusion & Application
Renewing our minds means filling them with God's truth, while transforming our hearts means allowing God to change our deepest desires. Both are supernatural works of the Holy Spirit, moving alongside our willingness to cooperate.
Application for this week:
Let us stop letting the world shape and mold us. Instead, let's completely surrender our minds and hearts to God today. Let Him make you new from the inside out! 🙌 Let's reflect on this truth throughout the week.
