Saint Clodoald, also known as Saint Cloud (522–560), was a Merovingian prince and grandson of Clovis I, the first Catholic king of the Franks. After his father died in battle, Clodoald and his brothers were raised by their grandmother, Queen Clothilde. His older brothers were later murdered by their ambitious uncles, but Clodoald escaped with the help of loyal Christians. Rather than pursue the throne, he renounced his royal inheritance, gave his wealth to the poor, and devoted himself to prayer and an ascetic life. He became a disciple of Saint Severinus and later sought solitude in Provence.

Clodoald eventually returned to the Paris region and was ordained a priest in 551. At Novigentum, he founded a monastery and church dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours, serving the local people with compassion, wisdom, and a reputation for healing. He died around 560 at the age of 38, and the village that grew around his tomb was eventually renamed Saint-Cloud in his honor. Venerated in both the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches, Saint Clodoald is celebrated on September 7 as an example of choosing faith, humility, and service over worldly power and privilege.

O Saint Clodoald,
You who turned away from the luxury of the royal courtand chose the humble life of a servant of God, grant us the grace to seek spiritual treasures above worldly wealth.

Through your early life, you knew the fear of betrayal and violence, yet you found sanctuary and peace under the protection of the Almighty. Guide us when we face conflict, jealousy, or harm, and help us to forgive those who wrong us, just as you forgave your uncles.

You who laid down your earthly crown for a crown of heavenly glory, intercede for us in our daily needs (mention your personal request here). Teach us to let go of pride, to cut away our attachments to worldly status, and to dedicate our lives to the service of God and our neighbors.

Saint Clodoald, pray for us.
