Shalom Manila

Shalom Manila Founded in Brazil by Moyses Azevedo and Emmir Nogueira. We are the Shalom Catholic Community It was clear that the Lord had higher plans for this "new thing".

The Shalom Catholic Community was established in July 9th 1982 as a result of a life-changing encounter with Pope John Paul II that Moyses Azevedo had 2 years before. Led by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit after this meeting, he and other young people at the time started to work for the evangelization of the youth, the poor and later of all man. The initial idea was to start a snack-bar or coff

ee-shop as a means to reach out the youth. The snack-bar offered not only what was on the menu but this was always followed by an invitation to come to Mass, to a prayer group, to receive spiritual counselling and prayer and many other christian social activities in the house. Not only the youth but their families and friends begun to feel more an more attracted to God and to His Church. The work started to bear many many fruits. The lives of those who were touched by it started to change. Soon, there were a lot of people involved and committed to spread the Good News of the Gospel. Always with the blessings and spiritual support of its local Archbishop. Later, some of its member felt a deeper call to commit themselves entirely to this work of evangelization as lay people. Soon the first members had their official promise to consecrate their lives for this purpose in a solemn commitment before the Church. It was just the beginning of something bigger than them...

New fronts of evangelization was developed through out the years. Works in social field, health care, in promoting human dignity, in arts & culture towards the youth, children, families, society's builders and so. What had started in Fortaleza city, Capital of Ceara State (Brazil) have now widen up and reached out the World. The Shalom Catholic Community is now present in many cities and Countries such as: Brazil, Italy, Rome, France, Switzerland, Argelia, Tunisia, Canada, Chile, Montevideo, Israel, Madagascar, Portugal, French Guiana, United Kingdom and others. It has over than 5,000 members and more than 30,000 participate in its activities through prayer groups and other works. After a long process of spiritual, human and ecclesiastic growth and after understanding more and more the new path the Lord has envisioned for them, in 1998 the Community received Canonical recognition from the Archbishop of Fortaleza. It became a member of the Catholic Fraternity of Charismatic, Covenant Communities and Fellowships. In 2007 the Community received its pontifical recognition by the Holy See as an International Association of the Faithful being thus recognized worldwide by Mother Church. In May 2012, Pope Benedict XVI, through the Pontifical Council for the Laity, granted the Definitive Approval of Shalom Catholic Community's Statutes as the Community celebrated its 30th Anniversary. The Church is saying to us "Go! Go and spread the Gospel throughout the World! Reach the heart and soul of all men who suffers because they don't know Christ!".

Our weekend in the mountains of Baguio was filled with joy and celebration.

On Saturday, we attended the Celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation, in which 78 young people received the Sacrament at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Kibungan. After the liturgy, we took part in the parish fellowship gathering, marked by cultural expressions of dance and fraternal communion.

On Sunday, we conducted a formation on Morning Prayer in Palina, with the goal of helping the faithful cultivate a solid spiritual life by beginning each day in God’s presence. Finally, we concluded the day with a hike to Mount Kilkili, accompanied by youth and adults from the local community.

Today we rejoice in the renewal of the temporary promises in the Shalom Charism of our brother Flavio Mascarenhas.

To say “yes” once again is to let the Lord write another chapter of His election. It is to renew the desire to be a “disciple and minister of peace,” consumed in evangelization and living the spirituality of the Risen One who passed through the Cross.

Today we also celebrate the gift of life of our brother JoĂŁo Marcelino (John).

May the Lord always renew in his life the gift of fortitude, joy, and love for the mission!

Shalom! 🙏

Celebrating Saint Joseph’s Day 🙏

A silent guardian, a faithful servant, a man who trusted God in everything.

May his example inspire the mission of the whole Church to live humility, obedience, and total abandonment to God’s will.

Saint Joseph, pray for us! ✨

Three years of generous “yes.”
Three years of service, leadership, hidden sacrifices, and unwavering faith.

Three years witnessing Divine Providence in every challenge and every victory.

Your life, MJ, has been a living sign that mission is born from love and sustained by trust in God.

Through your dedication, many have encountered peace, hope, and the joy of belonging to a community called to build a new society of love.

May the Lord continue to strengthen you, renew your joy, and multiply the fruits of your offering. The Philippines is blessed by your “yes.”

Happy 3rd anniversary of mission! 🎉🔥

We begin our Lenten journey. A rime to return to what truly matters, to quiet the heart . To begin again.

May every step, every sacrifice, and every prayer draw us closer to Him, Through Him, With Him and In Him.

Lord, leads us on the path to Easter.

Moysés Azevedo, founder of the Shalom Catholic Community, attends Assembly with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican

The meeting in Rome addressed the role of lay formation from the perspective of “generating life in Christ.” Moysés Azevedo took part as a member of the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life, alongside Father Franco Galdino, a priest of the Shalom Community of Life and head of the Dicastery’s Youth Sector.

With grateful hearts, we celebrated last Sunday, February 8th, the Holy Mass at the Shalom Mission House here in the Philippines, during the beautiful visit of our dear friend, Father Noel Espina, CICM.

A moment of grace that strengthened our friendship, renewed our mission, and reminded us of the beauty of communion between vocations.

United in Christ, we continue to serve with joy. 🙏✨

On February 2nd, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. In the Shalom Community, we also celebrate the gift of Celibacy for the Kingdom of Heaven within the Shalom vocation.

Men and women who choose to live Celibacy for the Kingdom of Heaven offer, in the totality of their being and existence, a fruitful response of love to God, answering the call to belong entirely to Him.

The silent offering of a celibate life is a source of life in the Spirit for the community and for all humanity.

On this day, let us live with joyful hearts, grateful for the lives of these celibate brothers and sisters, praying for each one of them and for holy and new vocations to Celibacy for the Kingdom of Heaven.
