On this Memorial of Saint Joseph the Worker, the Church invites us to contemplate the quiet dignity of work through the life of a man who spoke no recorded words in Scripture, yet proclaimed God’s will through faithful action. In the hidden workshop of Nazareth, Joseph labored not for recognition, but out of love—shaping wood with patient hands while God was shaping salvation in his home. His work became prayer, and his ordinary tasks became a sacred offering.

In a world that often measures worth by productivity and success, Saint Joseph reminds us that the true value of work lies not in status, but in love and fidelity. Every task—no matter how simple—can become holy when done with integrity and offered to God. Whether we labor in offices, classrooms, homes, or fields, we are called to see our work not merely as duty, but as participation in God’s ongoing creation.

StJoseph also teaches us the grace of responsibility. He worked to provide, to protect, and to nurture the Holy Family, embracing both the burdens and blessings of his vocation. His life tells us that work is not just about earning a living—it is about building a life rooted in trust, sacrifice, and care for others. In his silent strength, we find a model of perseverance and humility, especially in times when work feels tiring, unseen, or undervalued.

As we honor Saint Joseph the Worker, may we rediscover the sacredness of our daily labor. May we offer our efforts—both successes and struggles—to God, trusting that nothing done with love is ever wasted. And like Joseph, may we find joy not in applause, but in knowing that through our work, we quietly participate in God’s greater plan.

Prayer:
Saint Joseph, faithful worker and humble guardian, teach us to labor with love, patience, and trust in God’s providence. Bless the work of our hands, that in all we do, we may glorify God and serve others with a generous heart. Amen.

Today, we remember Pope Pius V—a shepherd who led the Church with courage, discipline, and deep faith during a time of great renewal.

Born Antonio Ghislieri, he entered the Dominican Order at a young age and grew in holiness as a priest, teacher, and servant of the Church. Known for his unwavering defense of the faith, he was called to serve as bishop, cardinal, and eventually pope.

Elected in 1566—with the support of Charles Borromeo—he faithfully implemented the reforms of the Council of Trent. Through his leadership, Church discipline was renewed, and the celebration of the Mass was unified through the Roman Missal of 1570.

In a time of challenge, St. Pius V reminded the faithful that true renewal begins within:
• A life rooted in prayer
• Faithful service to the Church
• A heart renewed through humility,
love, and truth

He also encouraged deeper devotion—especially to the Holy Rosary—and guided Christendom during the victory of the Holy League at the Battle of Lepanto.

After his death in 1572, he was canonized in 1712 by Pope Clement XI.

St. Pius V’s life reminds us that even in difficult times, the Church finds renewal when we remain close to God.

Prayer
Saint Pius V, through your strong faith and courage, inspire us to become faithful instruments of renewal—steadfast in truth, devoted in prayer, and courageous in witnessing to our faith.

Saint Pius V, pray for us.

Jesus, I trust in You.

On the Memorial of Catherine of Siena, we remember a saint whose life beautifully wove together contemplation and courageous action. Her words still echo with conviction : “Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.” Catherine’s holiness compelled her to love boldly and to serve faithfully, grounded in her deep relationship with Christ.

Born in 1347 in Siena, Italy, Catherine was born into a large family and grew up in a deeply religious home. From a young age, she felt called to belong totally to God, eventually joining the Dominican Third Order while living at home in simplicity, prayer, and penance. She cared for the sick, especially during times of plague, and despite having no formal education, she dictated powerful letters and spiritual works that revealed both her deep love for Christ and her concern for the Church.

Her spirituality reveals a profound trust in God’s presence. She wrote, “All the way to heaven is heaven, because Jesus said, ‘I am the way,’” reminding us that every step, when lived in Christ, becomes a path toward Him. From this intimacy flowed her mission, giving her the strength to speak truth and to act with conviction in times of difficulty.

The Church continues to recognize her witness across the centuries. Pope Paul VI praised her wisdom and courage, while Pope Benedict XVI noted how she united “an intense mystical life with tireless activity for the Church.” Even today, her challenge remains relevant: “Proclaim the truth and do not be silent through fear.”

Prayer
Lord, set our hearts on fire with Your love, that we may live boldly and faithfully as St. Catherine did. Grant us the courage to seek truth, to serve generously, and to follow You without fear.

Installation of New Members of the Ministry of Receiving Gifts and Greeters
April 26, 2026

During the Eucharistic Celebration on Good Shepherd Sunday presided over by Fr. James Castro, CMF and concelebrated by Fr. Charles Jocris Mortela, CMF, nine new members of the Ministry of Receiving Gifts and Greeters were installed.

Homily Reflections of Fr. James Castro, CMF:

Good Shepherd Sunday is celebrated every fourth Sunday of Easter to remind us once again of what Easter truly means for us. Easter brings the fullness of life, as proclaimed in the Gospel. It reminds us that Christ is alive.

But what is this “fullness of life” or “abundant life”? In today’s world, many people equate it with having wealth, power, position, and prestige—seeing abundant life as success.

However, this is not the promise Jesus gave us. Christ promised peace, fulfillment, happiness, and joy. As we grow in maturity, we begin to desire a simpler life—a “mapayapang buhay.”

The Good Shepherd means:
1. Jesus knows us by name—our situations, our problems, and what we are going through. God understands us in our weaknesses, and He calls us to return to Him.

2. Jesus leads the way—to greener pastures. He guides us and calls us by His voice. We recognize His voice and follow Him. In the reality of our world, there are many voices—even false ones—but there is only one true voice of God. We are called to pray and to listen to Him.

3. He is the gate—the Shepherd stays by the gate to protect the sheep. This assures us that we are kept from falling apart and from falling into sin.

The biggest invitation for all of us, who are also shepherds—especially parents—is to truly listen to our children. Drawing from his experience as a life coach and former school director in Zamboanga, Fr. James emphasized the importance of listening to the youth. They have a different “language,” and in order to truly guide them, we must learn to listen.

Young people may not always know how to verbalize what they feel, but they express it in their own ways. Many feel that their parents do not really know them. As good shepherds, we are called to listen attentively so that we may truly “know them by name.” Often, there is little time spent together, and even when families are together, each one is absorbed in their own gadgets.

Jesus invites us to be good shepherds. As one quote reminds us: “Listen to their hearts, and you will be able to ask for their hands.” When we communicate our love clearly, it becomes easier to gain their cooperation, because they know they are cared for and loved.

Fr. James shared that growing up, he knew his parents loved him, but he did not always feel it. Often, parents assume that the way they express love is the same way their children wish to receive it. Instead, we are invited to ask them how they want to be loved.

Congratulations to the New Members

We warmly congratulate the nine newly installed members of the Ministry of Receiving Gifts and Greeters. May your welcoming presence reflect the love of Christ to all who enter the Church, and may your service always be filled with joy, dedication, and a true spirit of stewardship.

Acknowledgment and Gratitude

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Fr. James Castro, CMF, for presiding over the Eucharistic Celebration and for his inspiring and meaningful homily, and to Fr. Charles Jocris Mortela, CMF, for concelebrating the Mass. We also thank all our church servers and parishioners whose presence and participation made the celebration meaningful and prayerful. May the Good Shepherd continue to guide and bless us all.

God’s embrace never weakens. In moments when life feels overwhelming—when responsibilities, worries, and struggles weigh heavily on our hearts—God reminds us that He is our refuge. In Him, we can find rest, strength, and the security our hearts long for.

The image of God’s “everlasting arms” beautifully expresses His constant care. Like a loving parent holding a child, God surrounds us with a love that never fades. His arms sustain us when we stumble and gently lift us when we feel tired or discouraged.

God’s protection does not mean we will never face difficulties, but it assures us that we are never alone in them. His presence carries us through moments when our own strength is not enough. In His everlasting arms, we find peace, comfort, and hope.

Do I lean on God as my true refuge?

Spend a quiet moment today resting in God’s presence.
