Today, we join the global community in observing the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons (WDATP).
The 2024 Global Report on Trafficking in Persons reveals a troubling 25% increase in human trafficking between 2019 and 2022. Alarmingly, more children are being exploited, and cases of forced labour are rising—driven by vulnerabilities stemming from poverty, conflict, and the escalating climate crisis.
Organized criminal networks are at the heart of this exploitation. They exploit migration flows, global supply chains, legal and economic loopholes, and digital platforms to carry out large-scale, cross-border trafficking. These networks profit from forced labour, sexual exploitation, and coercion into crimes like online scams and drug trafficking. Despite some progress, criminal justice responses remain inadequate in addressing this fast-evolving and deeply complex crime.
This year’s WDATP theme, “Human Trafficking is Organized Crime – End the Exploitation,” underscores the urgent need for stronger law enforcement and a more effective justice system—while keeping victims at the center of every response.
While many of us may feel powerless in the face of such a vast and hidden crime, we are not without recourse. One of the most powerful actions we can take is to come before our just and mighty God in prayer—both individually and together.
Let’s do that today. Let us pray.
Prayer:
Righteous God, Defender of the voiceless, we come before You with hearts heavy for the millions trapped in the cruelty of human trafficking — exploited, dehumanized, and silenced by organized evil.
Just as Your Word declares in Psalm 35:10,
"Lord, who can compare with You? You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those who rob them."
So today, we cry out for You to rise in power.
Break every chain of exploitation.
Expose every hidden network of organized crime.
Disrupt every system that profits from pain.
Let the cries of the vulnerable reach the halls of justice.
Let Your light shine where darkness has ruled too long.
We pray for survivors — bring them healing, wholeness, and hope.
We pray for the traffickers — convict their hearts and dismantle their power.
We pray for governments, law enforcement, and communities — give them courage to confront injustice, wisdom to protect the innocent, and unity to end this crime against humanity. Let justice roll like a river, and righteousness like a never-failing stream.
Lord Jesus, You came so we may have life, and that we may have it more abundantly. May everyone experience an abundant life in You. In Your Name, we pray. Amen.
