On 7 February 2026, the Postulants of the Province of San Pedro Bautista (Manila) were visited by Friar Anthony Chircop, OFM, Franciscan Provincial of Malta, and Friar Ramon Farrugia, OFM, Definitor of the same province. Their visit formed part of the ongoing collaboration and fraternal relationship between the Franciscan provinces of Malta and Manila.
The gathering provided a meaningful opportunity for dialogue, encouragement, and deeper understanding of the shared mission and identity that unite Franciscan communities across cultures and nations.
During the dialogue session with the postulants in formation, the friars spoke about the continuing partnership between the two provinces, highlighting the importance of mutual support in formation, mission, and fraternity. Drawing from their own journeys in religious life, they shared personal experiences from their years in formation as well as insights from the leadership roles they now hold. Their reflections gave the postulants a broader vision of Franciscan life, showing how early formation lays the foundation for future service in various ministries and responsibilities within the province.
A central theme of the encounter was vocation and community living, particularly the Franciscan identity of fraternity. Friar Anthony emphasised the need to care for one’s vocation with sincerity and joy, reminding the postulants that true happiness is found in faithful openness to God’s will. His message underscored that vocation is not only a personal calling but also a daily commitment nurtured through intimate prayer with God, community, and service.
“When you do the will of God, you will be happy” – Friar Anthony
Friar Ramon, speaking to the multicultural makeup of the postulancy, which includes brothers from the Philippines, Myanmar, and Singapore, highlighting the beauty and challenges of intercultural fraternity. He noted that while language and cultural differences may sometimes limit expression, the authenticity of the heart remains visible in how one lives, relates, and loves within the community.
“We come from different cultures and challenges. Words may fail to express who we really are, but our hearts cannot be hidden.” -Fr. Ramon
The session concluded with an open forum where postulants were able to ask questions and engage more personally with the visiting friars. This exchange fostered a spirit of trust and mutual learning. Afterward, Friars Anthony and Ramon visited nearby barangays, taking time to appreciate the local surroundings and greet residents.
