Completeness in following Jesus
Matthew 19:21
[21]Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect (complete), go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
*NOTHING CAN EVER FILL THE VOID IN OUR BEING BUT ONLY BY COMING AND FOLLOWING THE LORD. THAT'S THE ONLY TIME WE CAN BE COMPLETE (PERFECT) NOT IN THIS WORLD BUT IN THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN.
Matthew 19:22-23 NIV
[22] When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. [23] Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven.
*It is hard to follow the Lord when are "rich" (full of ourselves: Pride)
Matthew 19:24-30 NIV
[24] Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
* We are able to follow Jesus through HUMILITY
[25] When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?”
*It's impossible for humans to be sincerely humble:
He can be humble in actions and gestures but would still be full of pride in heart
*What is true humility
1 Peter 5:5-7 NIV
[5] In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”a [6] Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. [7] Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
[26] Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
*True humility is possible with God
Philippians 2:13 KJV
[13] For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
1 Corinthians 15:10 KJV
[10] But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
*What's in it for us?
[27] Peter answered him, “We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?” [28] Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. [29] And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wifea or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. [30] But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.
Conclusion:
We maybe righteous in our own ways but we are never and never will be complete without Jesus.
We will always be lacking in weight and measure.
Our own righteousness are just filthy rugs in his sight. Only his righteousness imputed on us through faith can make us perfect and complete.
Jesus is inviting us to leave everything behind and follow him towards the great price of our calling. Eternal life with him.
