THE RESURRECTION CHANGES EVERYTHING

It is this one event that all of Christianity hangs on. If there is no resurrection, there is no salvation. If there is no salvation, then there is no justification. And if there is no justification, then humanity is lost in the consequences and torment of their own sin. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15:14-18,

"...if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either.

And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is useless; you are still in your sins.

Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost.

If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied."

But there is resurrection. God did raise Jesus from the dead. And because Jesus raised from the dead, we too will raise from the dead if we are in Christ. Paul continues,

"But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have died. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.

For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

But each in turn: Christ, the first fruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death...

For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory." (1 Corinthians 15:20-26; 53-54)

Today we celebrate His resurrection.
Today we celebrate our salvation.
Today we celebrate death's destruction.

Today, we rejoice knowing that because Jesus raised from the dead, death has been defeated. And if death has been defeated, that means death is not the end.

Jesus' victory is the end.
Resurrection to salvation is the end.
Eternity in paradise with Christ is the end.

The resurrection is the one event that changed everything. For you, for me, and for the whole world that places their trust in Christ.

The resurrection changes everything, because the risen Christ is our everything.

I was at the grocery store this morning and heard a loud crash and something shattering. Being nosy, I walked towards the sound and saw some people whispering and looking back to the end of the next aisle. When I walked down that aisle, I saw an older lady had hit a shelf and many things had fallen to the ground and broke. She was kneeling on the floor embarrassed, frantically trying to clean up.
I felt so bad for her, and everyone was just standing there staring at her. So I went and knelt beside her and told her not to worry and started helping her pick up the broken pieces. After about a minute, the store manager came and knelt beside us and said, “Leave it, we will clean this up.” The lady, totally embarrassed said, “I need to pay for all this first.” The manager smiled, helped her to her feet and said, “No ma’am, we have insurance for this, you do not have to pay anything!”
If you have read this far, I would like for you to give me a minute. Wherever you are, close your eyes, and imagine God doing the same for you!
Collecting the pieces of your broken heart from all the blows life has thrown at you. The bill for your faults, sin and folly has already been paid through the precious blood of Christ. God will heal all your wounds. He wants to gently lift you to your feet again, clean up your mess, and pick up all the broken pieces. He wants to heal you! He wants to take care of your soul!
We can have that same insurance and it’s called GRACE!

Good theology = a good grasp of reality.
Bad theology = a bad grasp of reality.
Strive for good theology.

STOP SAYING SILLY THINGS

Grabe. That should be our new year resolution! We find ourselves so often repeating things simply because we heard it and it either (1) sounded good to our ears or (2) made us feel good.

But neither of these are good reasons to say something or claim something.

If we're going to say a truth claim (such as "he is an angel now"), we need to have good reason to make such a claim.

Otherwise it's no more real than a fairytale.

And while fairytales are fine stories, they are not reality.

Human dead do not become angels. That's not how any of this works. That's terrible theology.

Human dead become human dead, who are then raised to life again as humans, who will then live for an eternity either under God's love and mercy, or under God's justice.

Rather than making silly claims like this about our dead friends and family, we should focus on helping them learn about Jesus BEFORE they die.

That way we can confidently say, "he/she is with Jesus now," rather than make ourselves feel better with a fairytale statement.

Good theology = a good grasp of reality.
Bad theology = a bad grasp of reality.

Strive for good theology.

It will change your life.
