"In a statement on Tuesday, Cimatu said that while 50 to 60 percent of all establishments in Boracay appeared to be compliant with the requirement, “all the rest direct their pipes to the canals, which drain to the sea.”"

Fifty-one establishments operating on Boracay Island are facing closure after being found to have no wastewater treatment facilities and dumping sewage into the sea, according to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

The simulation drill of Barangay Osmeña in Culion, Palawan commenced today as the culmination of the comprehensive disaster preparedness program spearheaded by SLB and the local government for the community.

Themed "Sakuna ay Iwasan, Bantang Panganib ay Paghandaan", the drill hoped to institutionalize good governance practices and citizen participation in preparing for disasters such as typhoons.

SLB Program Manager for Disaster Preparedness Marianne Licuanan conducted the orientation at the barangay hall of Barangay Osmeña.

Participants of the drill included beneficiaries of the San Ignacio Culion Ecoville resettlement project.
