Sunday Sermon Recap
Speaker: Bro. Adan Alvarez
Title: NOT ASHAMED OF THE GOSPEL
Text: Romans 1:16

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.”

“I do not see those with two legs going.”
George Stott - A one legged missionary that went to China to mission

• We are doing mission — di pwede na itong church lang ang ligtas.
──────────
I. THE MAN — “I am not ashamed” Mark 8:38

Reasons why Christians don’t share the Gospel:
• Physical
• Proficiency
• Profession
• Passivity
• Pride
• Personal walk

-Apostle Paul — apostle to the Gentiles (literate teaching illiterates)
-Apostle Peter — apostle to the Jews (illiterate teaching the law to literates)

“Ayaw ko mag-share kasi nakakahiya” — this is pride. Crucifixion — pinaka nakakahiya na punishment. Sinalo ni Lord ‘yon, tapos mahihiya ka?
──────────
II. THE MESSAGE — “of the Gospel of Christ” 1 Corinthians 1:18

• Some are ashamed of the message — iniisip nila outdated or irrelevant ang Bible, so they distort the Gospel to fit what people want.
• Galatians 1:6–10 — warning against a distorted gospel

Examples of distorting the gospel:
1. Prosperity Gospel
-Godliness guarantees wealth, health, and a trouble-free life
2. Self-Help/ Me-First Gospel
-positions Jesus as a life coach
3. Moralism / performance Gospel
-suggests that salvation is earned or maintained by being a “good person, keeping religious rules, or adhering to specific standards”
4. Universalism
-the incorrect idea that all people will be saved
5. Legalistic Gospel
-relies on adhering to set of rules or laws
6. Cheap Grace (Faith-So Gospel)
-teaches that since Jesus saves, one can live however they want, ignoring the need holiness and repentance — you only want the benefits but not the requirements of the Lord
7. Social Justice Gospel
-replaces the need for personal conversion and repentance with a primary focus on social activism and political change

• The true Gospel involves repentance — turning away from sin (Mark 1:15)
──────────
III. MOTIVATION — The Gospel is the power of God
- The gospel of God will never fail to save the elect (Romans 8:29-30)
- You cannot change someone. It is the Gospel that will change them.
- This is why you have to be careful in sharing the Gospel.
Mali pagkashare= walang power ang Gospel

Why do some people refuse to come to Christ? 2 Timothy 3:5

Why are we not effective? You can't effectively share something you don't truly have or something that isn't actively working within you

──────────
IV. THE MULTITUDE — For the Jew and also for the Greek
• Pag nagsha-share ba kayo ng Gospel, namimili kayo?
• James 1:27 — faith must be lived out without partiality
──────────
CONCLUSION

• Apostle Paul was not ashamed of the Gospel despite many reasons to be.
• The Gospel is the power of God for salvation — hindi ito nakadepende sa wisdom o skill mo.
• We are called to faithfully preach the Gospel to all people.

CHAPTER 1 – LESSONS FROM THE LIFE OF JONAH

01. 𝙀𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝘾𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙨 𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙖 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘 𝙥𝙪𝙧𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙤𝙧 𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 (𝙫𝙫. 1–2)
Everyone who is saved has a general purpose from God: salvation, sanctification, and service. However, this is different from a specific purpose. God does not call you only to a general mission; He calls you to something specific.

You must determine what that purpose is, such as preaching the Word. The Lord saved each one of us with a specific purpose in mind. You are not saved just to go to heaven. Your salvation must bear fruit. That fruit is the evidence and genuineness of your salvation. Jonah’s specific mission was to preach judgment to the Ninevites. You are not born merely to eat, drink, work, and die. You are called by God to do something meaningful in life.

How to know your specific purpose:

A. Open your heart
B. Read the Bible
God is more than willing to reveal it to you.

02. 𝑮𝒐𝒅’𝒔 𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒊𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒚

There is no mission that is easy. God does not assign easy tasks. All of us come to a turning point in life, a crossroads where we often choose the easier path. When we know something is difficult, we tend to avoid it. Jonah was out of his comfort zone, which is why he became reluctant.

Step out of your comfort zone. If you do not leave it, you will not improve. What is difficult often has eternal value.
Background:

Why Jonah doubted?
The Jewish people were ethnocentric and centered on their own culture. They did not want to go to Nineveh (Assyria) because it was a non-Jewish nation and also their enemy. Assyria conquered the ten tribes of Israel.

When God calls you,He is willing to accompany you every step of the way. Do not let doubt hinder you.

03. 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒓𝒖𝒏, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒉𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑮𝒐𝒅 (𝒗𝒗. 3–4)
Even when you are stubborn, God does not give up on you. God will not allow you to drift too far away. If you are a Christian and you backslide, you cannot go too far.
Hebrews 12 speaks about the chastisement of God. If you are not disciplined, you are considered an illegitimate child. God will correct you and pull you back.
God will not abandon you. He will restrict and discipline you when necessary.
__________________________________________

04. 𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒂𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔 (𝒗𝒗. 5–8)
Jonah’s disobedience almost cost the lives of the mariners. Your disobedience can affect your immediate family and the people around you. When one member serves God faithfully, the whole family is blessed.
__________________________________________

05. 𝑾𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝑮𝒐𝒅 (𝒗𝒗. 9–12)
Jonah was aware of his disobedience. We are not innocent because we know when we disobey. He knew he was the cause of the problem, and he also knew the solution. Often, we know the solution but remain stubborn and indifferent.
__________________________________________

06. 𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒔 𝒖𝒏𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒄𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒇𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔 (𝒗𝒗. 13–16)
The mariners hesitated to throw Jonah into the sea. They showed more mercy than Jonah did.
__________________________________________

07. 𝑮𝒐𝒅 𝒊𝒔 𝒔𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒊𝒈𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒍 𝒐𝒇 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈
The major theme is that God is sovereign over all nations. Even when you are stubborn, God remains in control of your life. He can bring you exactly where He wants you to be. God is powerful and purposeful.
When Jonah was thrown into the sea, they thought he would die. But with God, your story is not yet finished. You were created with a mission, and God is not done working in your life. The great fish was not a method of destruction. If God wanted Jonah dead, He could have done it immediately.

SUNDAY SERMON RECAP
SPEAKER: Ptr. Amor Cabardo
Title: God’s Mission: From Eternity to Our Responsibility
Text: Matthew 28:19–20; Acts 1:8

The mission started in the mind of God before the world began.

God is sending us to the world!
S.E.N.D

S – Sovereignly Planned (Eternity Past)
Ito ay itinakda.
We cannot fully understand the infinite plan of God.

Missio Dei – Mission of God
1. Planned in Eternity (Before Creation)
Ephesians 1:4–5
From Genesis to Revelation—iisa ang tema:
God pursuing sinners.

Imago Dei
God created man in His image.

Purpose:
To reflect His glory and rule on His behalf.

Key Truth:
Humanity was created to represent God to the world.
Your life is supposed to reflect God.

Promised in History (After the Fall)
Genesis 3:15–17, 19

Protoevangelium
God promised that the seed of the woman will ultimately defeat the serpent.

Genesis 3:6–9
•Sin entered
•Separation from God
•The image of God was marred (not erased)
•Relationship was broken
•Mission now becomes a rescue mission.

Key Doctrine:
Total Depravity
(v.9: “Where are you?”)

E – Executed by Christ (The Cross)
"It is finished." (John 19:30)

•Bayad na ang kasalanan
•Kumpleto na ang kaligtasan
•Wala nang kulang

Doctrine of Atonement

Substitutionary Atonement – Siya ang pumalit

Propitiation – Na-satisfy ang wrath of God

Redemption – Tinubos tayo

Hindi ito partial salvation—complete salvation ito.

N – Now Proclaimed by the Church (Present Mission)
Matthew 28:19–20

“Go therefore…”
Hindi Niya sinabi:
“Stay.”
Hindi Niya sinabi:
“Observe.”
Sinabi Niya: GO.
Acts 1:8
“You will be My witnesses…”

Ecclesiology
•Ang church ay hindi building
•Hindi ito event
•Ito ay isang community

The Church is called out (ekklesia).
The Church is sent out (mission) in your every step.

D – Destined for God’s Glory (Eternity Future)
Revelation 7:9

Mission exists because worship is lacking.

Conclusion
From eternity past to eternity future, God’s mission has always been moving.
At ngayon, tinatawag ka Niya—not just to believe it, but to live it and bring others into

3 reasons why Christ’s resurrection was revealed to the women: (Mary Magdalene, Joana and Mary mother of James)

1. These women are the most faithful witnesses.

Most of the apostles and disciples ran and hide, for their fear.

2. Women played an important part in the Gospel.

3. Reversal Approach

It was announced to the women first because they are excited. “They departed quickly with fear and great joy.”

What is the best evidence of Christ’s Resurrection? - The life of a Believer.

𝐈𝐈. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐫. (𝐯. 𝟗-𝟏𝟎)
Two things about the same women who encountered Jesus:

1. Encountering Jesus personally will lead us to worship Him. “They held him by the feet and worshiped Him.”

2. Encountering Jesus personally will lead us to a mission. “Go and Tell”

𝐈𝐈𝐈. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐨𝐭 𝐓𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐫. (𝐯.𝟏𝟏-𝟏𝟓)

What did the chief priest do when they heard the news about the Risen Savior?

They gave a large sum of money to the guards and bribe them to tell everyone that the disciples and apostles stole the body of Jesus.

And until now, that has been the belief of Jewish People, they are not believing the Christ is Risen from the dead. They do not believe in Jesus.

𝐈𝐕. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐫 (𝐯. 𝟏𝟔-𝟐𝟎)

After hearing the news about the Risen Savior they have been given a mission.

1. He commissioned us with Power. “All authority has been given to me.”

2. He commissioned us with Purpose. - “The main purpose is to make disciples.”

3. He commissioned us with Promise. “I will be with you always even unto the end of the age.”

What is the impact of Resurrection in your life?
How will you prove that Jesus is living in your life?

By Obeying the Great Commission.

If you understand deeply the Christ’s resurrection, you should also understand the Great Commission.

Sunday Sermon Recap
Speaker: Bro. Angelo Delos Santos
Title: The Silent Killers of True Spirituality

Introduction
He even set up a monument for his own name. He had the opportunity to glorify God, but he chose self-glory.

__________

I. Spiritual Ego / Pride
1 Samuel 15:30
“I have sinned; yet honor me now…”

Pride hinders our intimacy with God.
Kailangan natin ng humility before God.

__________

II. Spiritual Complacency
Spiritual complacency = comfort zone

Maraming mananampalataya:

* Active sa ministry
* Pero nakakalimot magbasa ng Bible, mag-devotion, at mag-pray

You can portray yourself as spiritual, but when you are alone, you forget to do these things.

Judges 3:7
“They forgot the Lord their God…”

Cycle of Sin:

* After experiencing peace → nagkakasala
* Pinaparusahan ng Panginoon
* Babalik sa Kanya
* Then it repeats again

__________

III. Spiritual Stagnation
Hebrews 5:12
“By this time you ought to be teachers…”

Habang tumatagal:

* Dapat mas lalo tayong lumalapit sa Panginoon
* Mas nakakausap natin Siya
* Mas nakikilala natin Siya

Kapag nagkakaroon tayo ng intimacy with God, mas humahaba ang time natin sa Kanya.
Involvement in ministry is not equal to intimacy with God.
Ang pananampalataya ay hindi about performance, kundi about intimacy with the Lord.
__________

IV. Hypocrisy
Acts 5:3
“Why has Satan filled your heart to lie…”

We can portray ourselves as spiritual, but in reality, we are far from the Lord.

Matthew 23:28
“You outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy.”

__________

V. Legalism
Colossians 2:23
“These things have an appearance of wisdom… but have no value.”

It is useless.

__________

Conclusion

These silent killers of true spirituality—pride, complacency, stagnation, hypocrisy, and legalism—are slowly pulling us away from intimacy with God.

Our relationship with God is more important than skills, rituals, or traditions, for these have no real value without Him.

We have silent battles—and we fight them in prayer.

Sa dulo ng lahat:
Wala kang ibang kakausapin kundi ang Diyos.
