🌿 THE WORD IN BLOOM™

📖 Reading 1: 1 Corinthians 1:1-9
📖 Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 145:2-3, 4-5, 6-7
📖 Gospel: Matthew 24:42-51

Jesus tells us to stay awake, because we do not know when the Master will come. The blessed servant is not the one making grand promises, but the one who is simply found doing what he was entrusted to do.

That is a beautiful way to remember Saint Monica.

Her holiness was not built on spectacular achievements. She persevered in prayer, patience, and love. She carried the pain of a mother who waited and trusted God even when the answer seemed painfully slow.

Her story reminds us: some prayers are answered through years of faithfulness.

Saint Paul tells the Corinthians that God is faithful and that He will strengthen them to the end. That same faithfulness sustained Monica.
Perhaps today you are praying for someone you love. Perhaps you have been waiting for change, healing, conversion, reconciliation, or a breakthrough.
Do not underestimate the power of simply remaining faithful.

Keep praying.
Keep loving.
Keep showing up.
Keep trusting.

You may never see immediately what God is doing.
But faithfulness is never wasted in the hands of God.

As we end this reflection, may Saint Monica teach us to wait without giving up, love without controlling, pray without despair, and remain faithful until the Master finds us still doing what love has asked us to do.

Sa kape, kailangan mong gilingin ang beans bago maging brew.
Ganoon din minsan ang puso.

May mga bagay na kailangang durugin: pride, ego, at yung feeling na kaya mong kontrolin ang lahat.

Ang “fear of the Lord” ay hindi takot na parang may kinatatakutan kang masamang Diyos.
Ito ay paggalang, paghanga, at pagkilalang hindi ikaw ang sentro ng lahat.
Minsan, doon nagsisimula ang tunay na blessing.

Kapag natuto kang magsabi: “Lord, hindi ko alam lahat. Ikaw ang mas nakakaalam.”

Hindi kahinaan ang humility.
It is a strength under control.

The Sermon of Soft Chaos:
𝐇𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢 𝐋𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚, 𝐁𝐮𝐡𝐚𝐲

In today's Gospel (Matthew 23:27–32), Jesus gives one of His strongest warnings against hypocrisy: “You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and every kind of filth.”

It is possible to look good without being transformed. We can polish our image, speak religious words, attend Church activities, and appear faithful before others while something inside us is slowly dying. Jesus reminds us that God is not impressed by appearances. He sees the heart.

The danger of hypocrisy is that we can become experts at managing how others see us while neglecting who we truly are before God. We may hide anger behind a smile, pride behind service, resentment behind religious language, or selfishness behind good intentions.

Jesus is not condemning weakness. He is confronting dishonesty. There is a difference between being imperfect and pretending to be perfect. God can work with a heart that admits, “Lord, I need healing.” But a heart that refuses to acknowledge its wounds cannot easily receive the Physician.

True holiness is not about maintaining a spotless image. It is about allowing God to make us truthful, humble, merciful, and whole. Sometimes the most beautiful prayer is simply an honest one: “Lord, cleanse me where no one else can see.”

And perhaps this Gospel is an invitation to stop decorating what needs conversion. We do not need to impress God. We need to surrender to Him.

So today, huwag mong unahin ang pagpapaganda ng image mo. Unahin mong alagaan ang puso mo. Let Christ enter the places you hide, heal what is wounded, and breathe new life into what has become spiritually dead. Because God does not want a beautiful tomb. He wants a living heart.

🌿 THE WORD IN BLOOM™

Jesus' words are strong because the problem is serious. The Pharisees appear righteous on the outside, but their hearts have become disconnected from what they profess.

It is easy to polish the outside.

We can look successful, religious, generous, peaceful, or strong while carrying something completely different within.

Social media makes this even easier. We can carefully choose the picture, the caption, the smile, and the version of ourselves we want others to see.

But God sees beyond the filter.

Saint Paul reminds the Thessalonians that Christian faith must also be evident in responsible living and honest work. Holiness is not merely what happens inside a church. It is revealed in how we live when nobody is watching.

Today, perhaps the Lord is inviting us to stop asking, “How do I look?” and start asking, “Who am I becoming?”

Because God is not asking for a perfect image.

He is asking for a transformed heart.

As we end this reflection, may Christ remove whatever is merely superficial in us, heal what is hidden, and make our private lives as beautiful as the faith we profess publicly.

The Transverberation of Saint Teresa of Jesus commemorates a profound mystical experience in the life of Saint Teresa of Ávila, the reformer of the Carmelite Order.

Teresa described experiencing an angel who pierced her heart with a fiery dart, leaving her with an intense awareness of God's love. She understood this experience not as something to possess or boast about, but as a grace that drew her more deeply into love and complete surrender to God.

The image of the pierced heart became a powerful expression of Teresa's spirituality: a heart wounded by divine love becomes a heart capable of loving more deeply.

Teresa's experience asks us a simple question: What has my heart been pierced by?
Success? Recognition? Fear? Hurt? Anxiety?

Teresa invites us to let God's love become the deepest wound and the deepest healing of our lives.
The heart that belongs to God does not become less human.
It becomes more capable of loving.

For Carmel, contemplation is ultimately not about extraordinary experiences. It is about allowing God to transform the heart until our prayer becomes life and our life becomes love.

LET US PRAY,
Saint Teresa of Jesus,
you whose heart was set aflame by God's love, pray for us.
Teach us to enter the silence of prayer,
to surrender our hearts to Christ,
and to allow His love to transform us.
May we seek not extraordinary experiences,
but extraordinary faithfulness.

Saint Teresa of Jesus, pray for us. Amen.

🌿 Memorial – August 25
𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐡 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐳

“Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.”
– Matthew 18:5 (NRSV-CE)

𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐡 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐳 (1556–1648) was a Spanish priest, educator, and founder of the Order of the Pious Schools, or Piarists. Ordained in 1583, he moved to Rome in 1592. There, he became deeply concerned about poor children who had little access to education.

In 1597, he began teaching poor children at Santa Dorotea in Rome. His work grew into a mission dedicated especially to the education of children and youth, particularly the poor. The Piarist congregation was established in 1617 and became a religious order in 1621. Calasanz died in Rome on August 25, 1648, and was canonized in 1767.

Saint Joseph Calasanz saw education as a concrete way to serve God and protect human dignity. His life reminds us that every child deserves to be welcomed, taught, and given the opportunity to flourish.

To teach is not simply to fill a mind with knowledge. It is to help form a person with truth, faith, character, and hope. Sometimes, changing a life begins with patiently teaching one child.

and all who dedicate their lives to education.
Help us teach with patience,
serve with humility,
and form young people in truth and faith.

Sa coffee filter, hindi lahat ng dumadaan ay napupunta sa tasa.

May iniiwan.
May hinihiwalay.

Ganoon din ang buhay.

Ang dali nating mag-filter ng ibang tao.
“Red flag.”
“Fake.”
“Walang kwenta.”
“Hindi deserving.”

Pero tandaan: 𝐇𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢 𝐢𝐤𝐚𝐰 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫. 𝐃𝐢𝐲𝐨𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐮𝐤𝐨𝐦.

Hindi mo alam ang buong kuwento ng isang tao.

The Sermon of Soft Chaos:
𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭

In today's Gospel (Matthew 23:23–26), Jesus confronts the Pharisees for being careful about appearances while neglecting what truly matters: justice, mercy, and faith. He tells them, “Cleanse first the inside of the cup, so that the outside also may be clean.”

What a powerful reminder for us. It is easy to polish the outside. We can look religious, speak the right words, attend religious activities, and appear composed in front of others. But God sees beyond appearances. He sees what is happening inside the heart.

Sometimes we are more concerned about how we look than who we are becoming. We want clean hands while carrying resentment. We want a holy image while secretly feeding pride. We want others to see our goodness while avoiding the inner work of repentance.

Jesus is not interested in a faith that is merely decorative.
He wants a transformation from the inside out.

And interior conversion is not always comfortable. It means allowing God to reveal the attitudes we would rather hide: jealousy, anger, vanity, selfishness, unforgiveness, and the need for recognition. But God does not reveal these things to shame us. He reveals them so that He can heal and transform them.

A clean exterior without a clean heart is only an appearance. But when the heart is transformed, what is visible on the outside eventually begins to reflect what God is doing within.
