โญ Patroness of:
โ€ข The Church
โ€ข Christian mothers
โ€ข Spiritual motherhood and unity

โ€œThen he said to the disciple, โ€˜Here is your mother.โ€™โ€
โ€” John 19:27

Today, the Church honors the Blessed Virgin Mary as Mother of the Church, recognizing her maternal care for all who belong to Christ.
At the foot of the Cross, Jesus entrusted Mary to the beloved disciple, and through him, to the whole Church. From that moment, Mary became a spiritual mother to all believers.

As Mother of the Church, Mary accompanies the faithful with tenderness, interceding for us and leading us ever closer to her Son. She was present with the apostles at Pentecost, praying with them as the Holy Spirit descended upon the Church. Her life continues to teach us obedience, humility, and complete trust in Godโ€™s will.

This memorial reminds us that the Church is not only an institution, but a family gathered around Christ, cared for by the loving presence of His Mother. Under Maryโ€™s mantle, we are called to grow in unity, holiness, and faithful discipleship.

The Sermon of Soft Chaos:
Even in Pain, Jesus Made Sure You Would Not Be Motherless

In todayโ€™s Gospel (John 19:25โ€“34), Jesus hangs on the crossโ€”wounded, exhausted, and nearing death. Yet even in His suffering, His attention turns outward.
He sees His mother.
He sees the beloved disciple.
And He says:
โ€œBehold, your mother.โ€
Then the Gospel tells us:
โ€œAnd from that hour the disciple took her into his home.โ€
Even in pain,
Jesus still gives.
He gives care.
He gives relationship.
He gives His mother to the Church.
Mary is not standing at the cross powerless or absent.
She remains thereโ€”faithful, grieving, present.
And Jesus entrusts her
to the disciple,
and the disciple to her.
This is more than a practical arrangement.
It is a gift of spiritual motherhood.
Because Christ knows
we will need comfort, guidance, and tenderness on the journey of faith.
Sometimes we carry wounds quietly.
We feel abandoned.
Spiritually alone.
But at the cross,
Jesus makes sure His followers are not left without a mother.
Mary points us toward Him.
She stays near in suffering.
She teaches quiet faithfulness.
And the beloved disciple responds immediatelyโ€”
he takes her into his home.
Not just physically,
but into his life.
The same invitation remains for us.
To make room for what Jesus gives.
To welcome His mother with trust.
To remain close to the cross
without losing hope.
So today, huwag mong isipin na iniwan ka ni Jesus na mag-isa sa gitna ng sakit at hirap. He gave us His Mother to walk with us, so open your heart, stay close to Christ, and let Mary lead you nearer to Him.

๐Ÿ“– Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 87:1-2, 3, 5, 6-7
๐Ÿ“– Gospel: John 19:25-34

Todayโ€™s readings invite us to reflect on Maryโ€™s motherhood, faithful love, and the gift of spiritual family.

In the first reading, after the fall of humanity, God speaks words of hope and promise. Even in the midst of sin and brokenness, God prepares the way for redemption.

Mary, the new Eve, becomes part of this promise through her faithful โ€œyesโ€ to God.

The psalm praises the city of God and reminds us that all find life and belonging in Him.

In the Gospel, we stand at the foot of the Cross with Mary. In the midst of suffering and sorrow, Jesus looks upon His mother and the beloved disciple and says, โ€œBehold, your mother.โ€

With these words, Jesus entrusts Mary not only to John, but to the whole Church.

Mary becomes a spiritual mother to all believers gentle, faithful, and always leading us closer to Christ.

What makes Maryโ€™s motherhood so beautiful is her quiet and unwavering presence. She remains beside Jesus even in His suffering.

Her love is faithful not only in moments of joy, but also in pain and sacrifice.

Mary teaches us how to remain faithful to God even when life becomes difficult or uncertain.

Like the beloved disciple, we are invited to welcome Mary into our hearts and homes allowing her example of humility, trust, and devotion to guide our lives.

As Mother of the Church, she continues to pray for us and accompany us on our journey of faith.

As we end this reflection, may we lovingly welcome Mary as our spiritual mother, remain faithful to Christ in every season of life, and learn from her example of humility, courage, and unwavering trust in God.

In todayโ€™s Gospel (John 21:20โ€“25), the Gospel of John comes to a close.
After speaking with Peter, Jesus reminds him to focus on his own calling rather than comparing his path to others'.

Then the Gospel ends with this beautiful line:

โ€œI do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written.โ€

There was simply too much
that Jesus had done.

Too many moments.
Too many encounters.
Too much grace
to fully capture.

And maybe that is true in our lives too.

Sometimes we only remember
the painful chapters.
The failures.
The unanswered prayers.

But if we looked closely,
we would also see countless quiet moments
where God was present.

Prayers that were answered differently.
Doors that opened unexpectedly.
Strength that appeared when we were weak.
Mercy we did not deserve.

God has been moving
in ways we often overlook.

Not every miracle is dramatic.
Some are hidden in ordinary days.

A heart that kept going.
A relationship restored.
A burden survived.
A faith that somehow remained alive.

The story of Godโ€™s work
is always bigger
than what we can fully write or explain.

And your story is still being written.

So instead of comparing your journey with others,
stay faithful to the path Christ has given you.

Because He is still workingโ€”
even in the chapters you do not yet understand.

๐Ÿ“– Reading 1: Acts 28:16-20, 30-31
๐Ÿ“– Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 11:4, 5, 7
๐Ÿ“– Gospel: John 21:20-25

Todayโ€™s readings invite us to reflect on faithful perseverance, personal discipleship, and the endless greatness of Christ.

In the first reading, Paul finally arrives in Rome. Though still under guard, he continues preaching the Kingdom of God boldly and without fear. Despite imprisonment and hardships, nothing stops him from sharing the message of Christ.

Paul teaches us that true faith remains steadfast even in limitations and difficulties.

The psalm reminds us that the Lord is just and watches over those who walk in righteousness. God sees every act of faithfulness and remains close to His people.

In the Gospel, Peter becomes curious about the future of another disciple, but Jesus gently redirects him with a simple challenge โ€œWhat concern is it of yours? You follow me.โ€

These words remind us that discipleship is personal.

It is easy to compare our journey with others, wondering why their path seems different from ours. Yet Jesus calls each person uniquely.

Our focus should not be on comparing vocations, blessings, or struggles, but on faithfully following Christ wherever He leads us.

The Gospel ends by reminding us that the works of Jesus are beyond measure. His love, teachings, miracles, and mercy are so great that the whole world could not contain all that could be written about Him.

This beautiful ending invites us to continue discovering Christ more deeply every day.

No matter how much we know about Jesus, there is always more of His love, truth, and goodness to encounter.

As we end this reflection, may we remain faithful in following Christ without comparison, persevere in sharing His love despite difficulties, and continue growing in wonder at the greatness of His presence in our lives.
