On the 6th Anniversary of Her Pontifical Coronation, the venerable image of Our Lady of Lourdes was brought down from the Friarβs Convent of NSPOLL.
The image was carved by Manuel Flores in 1894, two years after the First Image of Lourdes was made, also by the same sculptor. The rapid growth of the Lourdes devotion, as introduced by the first batch of Capuchin Missionaries here in our country and strengthened by the founding members of our Archconfraternity, urged the creation of this larger image of the Virgin. Since then, the image was placed at the Sanctuary of the Lourdes Church in Intramuros, welcoming pilgrims and devotees, especially during Saturdays.
On August 22, 2020, the image of the Virgin finally received the highest honor given by the Church to a Marian Image in the form of a Pontifical Coronation. In a year where darkness enveloped the nation, the Healing Patroness of Quezon City was gloriously Crowned, thus became the powerful sign of Our Ladyβs special patronage against bodily, mental and spiritual sickness.
The Pontifical Coronation of Our Lady of Lourdes serves as the everlasting gift that we gave to our dearest Mother and Patroness as members of Her 1893 Archconfraternity, together with our dear Capuchin Fathers and all of Her devotees from all parts of the Philippines; Her Pueblo Amante.
The Crowned Virgin stayed at the side altar, originally occupied by the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, until Monday afternoon, before returning back to the prayer room inside the Capuchin Convent.
