The Puerto Princesa City church of Christ is not a part of any denomination ( I Cor. 1:10-13). We are simply a local body of Christians ( I Cor. 1:2) who meet together to worship the Lord ( Acts 20:7) and who do God's work together ( I Tim.5:16) with funds given on a free will basis by our members each first day of the week ( I Cor.16:1-2). We have no clergy ( Matt. 23:8-12) the church composed of
bishop (pastors, elders), deacons, and saints (members) (Phil.1:1). We follow no human creeds or doctrines of men (Rev. 22:18, 19) but follow Christ and His word ( Eph. 1:22,23; 2 Tim.3:16,17). We strive to give Scriptural authority for all we believe, teach and do( Col.3:16,17; 2 John 9). Our worship is not according to human tradition ( no using of any instrumental music) (Matt.15:7-9, Eph. 5:19; Col.3:16) but is in spirit and in truth ( John 4:23-24). Our one hope is a Home in Heaven ( Eph. 4:4; I Pet.1:3-5). For many years, the plea and cry of churches of Christ was: " Let us speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent. Let us call Bible things by Bible names and do Bible things in Bible ways." This is our aim and goal--to be a congregation of the Lord's people which demands a "thus says the Lord" for its actions and even its very existence ( Col 3:17). But what are we and what are we not? We are against an organized "Sunday School" which exist separate and apart from the church, but we are not against teaching the Bible in a class situation. Such is authorized in the commands to teach (2Tim.2:2) and for the flock to be feed (Acts 20:28). We are against a one-man-rule "pastor system" because all congregations in the New Testament had a plurality of pastors (Acts 14:23; Titus 1:5), but we are not opposed to a preacher's working with a local congregation for an extended period of time, even when the congregation has elders (Acts 20:31; I Tim.1:3). We are opposed to the "sponsoring church" system whereby many congregations send funds to one congregation to do their work, because the work of elders in the New Testament is limited to only one congregation (Acts 20:28). We are not opposed to congregations cooperating in the spreading of the Gospel ( 2Cor.11:9; Phil.4:15-16). We are opposed to "human benevolent institutions" being supported by the church, but we are not against orphans and needy people being provided for (Jas 1:27). This fact is demonstrated by many of like persuasion as we who have taken dependent children into their homes, adopted them, and provided a loving family relationship. We are not opposed to recreation or to members of the church associating with one another (Rome 12:10). We are against recreational activities and facilities being paid for from the church treasury for such is not authorized in the Bible. We believe in the one cup, the fruit of the vine (Luke 22:17-18). This is still the "one cup" whether or not it is in one container or divided into many, or whether it be one congregation or many ( I Cor.10:16-17). When one says that the fruit of the vine must be fermented wine, he is binding where the Lord has not bound ( Matt.16:19; 28:18-20). church of Christ
