A Tribute to Sis. Nida Manalon
Our Beloved Vice President
Nuestra Señora de Salvacion Chapel

With grateful hearts and solemn spirits, we honor the life and service of Sis. Nida Manalon, a faithful and dedicated Vice President of our chapel. Sis. Nida was more than a leader, she was a pillar of strength, a woman of deep faith, and a true servant of God.

Her unwavering commitment to serve, her kind words, and her gentle presence touched many lives. She led not for recognition, but from a heart overflowing with love for her brethren and her Lord. In every church or parish activity and every quiet act of kindness, Sis. Nida left a legacy of humility, excellence, and spiritual devotion.

Though her passing brings us sorrow, we find comfort in the promise of eternal life. As it is written in 2 Timothy 4:7:
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

Sis. Nida has indeed finished her race with honor and grace. Her memory will forever remain in our hearts and her example will continue to inspire us.

Rest well, beloved Sis. Nida. Your labor in the Lord was never in vain.

At the end of the fourth century, a woman named Etheria made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. Her journal, discovered in 1887, gives an unprecedented glimpse of liturgical life there. Among the celebrations she describes is the Epiphany (January 6), the observance of Christ’s birth, and the gala procession in honor of his Presentation in the Temple 40 days later—February 15.

This feast emphasizes Jesus’ first appearance in the Temple more than Mary’s purification.

The observance spread throughout the Western Church in the fifth and sixth centuries. Because the Church in the West celebrated Jesus’ birth on December 25, the Presentation was moved to February 2, 40 days after Christmas.

At the beginning of the eighth century, Pope Sergius inaugurated a candlelight procession; at the end of the same century the blessing and distribution of candles which continues to this day became part of the celebration, giving the feast its popular name: Candlemass. https://bit.ly/3SIDjRx
