Obedience: The highest form of Spiritual discipline

Sometimes, we are doing what God wants us to do but deep inside we are still struggling. Doing ministries or going to church will not be easy if we do not seek God personally everyday.

Messages from 1 Samuel 15:13-23:

1. It is emphasized that OBEDIENCE IS A TRUE ACT OF WORSHIP. God desires a heart of obedience over our actions.
The Lord always look unto the hearts of the people. Sincerity and obedience are pre-requisite in worshipping God.
Obeying God emotionally might not be easy because we tend to debate on what God really wants for us.

2. PARTIAL OBEDIENCE IS DISOBEDIENCE. God really wants a complete obedience.
Let the Holy Spirit lead us in our everyday routine. To be a child of God is to know Him personally, and we know that there's always something that God really wants for us.

3. OBEDIENCE IS THE TRUE MEASUREMENT OF THE BELIEVER'S MATURITY.
In making decisions in life, we should still obey God's instructions. Do not be worry when you are struggling to obey Him because He will increase our faith to follow Him.
We praise and thank God, we obey Him not because we fear to be punished but because we love Him.

What is true obedience?
1. It should be comes from the heart
2. It should be willing
3. It should be unreserved
4. It should be undeviating
5. It should be constant

Obedience is an act of clear intimacy with God.

01/15/23 (Sunday Worship)

Obeying God is easier said than done.

To obey is to submit yourself to the authority. It is also a compliance and action to the command.

There are 3 great questions in life:
1. What is the one true test that can determine that our faith is real?
2. What is one word that reveals that we are a professor or possessor of salvation?
3. What is one thing that God desires most in His children?

How do we discern God's voice? How do we know if God is speaking to us?
• God communicates His commands through scriptures or by His word. Also in every circumstances in life, God is speaking to us.

There are so much means God is communicating to us, so always be alerted in His voice. It is important how we hear Him.

We can impress people but not God. He knows what are our attitudes behind our actions. So in the end of the day, when we follow His instructions should not be because of how we impress other people, but it should be how we love the Lord.

Trust and obedience are bound together. The more we know God, the more we trust Him. The more we trust Him, the more we love Him. And the more we love Him, the more we obey Him.

The essence of christian life is obedience. If you love God, you will obey Him. To know God is to obey Him. Obeying God means saying no to our personal desire.

01/08/23 (Spiritual Emphasis)

God owns everything even our life. He is the creator and sustainer thus, the owner of everything. So, God also wants 100% obedience from us.

God asked Moses a question "What is it in your hand?". Why does God asked what's in his hand, not what's in his mind or heart? With our hands, we can choose to do good or evil. Hand expresses what is inside us.

3 effects in life of Moses because of the question "What is it in your hand?":

The stop, look, listen effection of the question
I. STOP - It is already the plan of God for us to have good life but, Moses didn't saw it. Moses had a lot of excuses and alibis to do the command of God. But the question puts Moses a "stop" to his excuses, doubts, and alibis. God wants Moses to realize.
We are being saved to serve the Lord. Stop all the unreasonable reasons!

II. LOOK - Moses looked at his hand and saw that he has a staff on it. We can see what we have by looking. There are enormous blessings in our hands. Whatever God placed in your hands right now, He is saying that you have to give it back because He owns everything. When we obey God by committing everything to Him, it will become God's.

III. Listen - Moses realized it was all he needed to fulfill his task. He listened -that is, he acted in obedience. Listen/ act in obedience and great things will happen to you, to others, and to the world.

Whatever God entrusted in you hand and only working it for yourself is the poorest thing you do.

12/21/22 Prayer Meeting

• Submission (Luke 1:26-38)

In Luke, Mary maybe had plans for her future such as her wedding, her plans with Joseph and many more. However, an angel appeared and maybe, those plans were disrupted. She will conceive a Messiah. Despite of the unexpected news, there was no expression of doubt in Mary. Instead, she trusted and submitted to the God. She accepted His plans for her.

We have many plans for ourselves but let us strive to pray that we will have the same submission to God just like Mary. When many plans fail, or discontinued, may our hearts be the same as Mary. May we have the courage to say, "I know who God is, therefore I will trust and submit to Him", "Even though plans are disrupted, I will trust His purpose for me."

John 15:1-5

ABIDE (stick to/remain and obey)
- Abide in Him and trust the process as He works in your life.
- REMAIN IN CHRIST because He is the true vine
- REMAIN IN CHRIST as the gardener prunes you

2 Reasons for Pruning:
1. For you to bear fruit
2. For you who bears fruit, He prunes you again to Bear More Fruit.

TO BEAR FRUIT
Fruits - Visible evidences of your faith and relationship with Jesus Christ.
• This treatment is cleansing and a preparation for the coming season.
• "For you who bears fruit, He prunes you again to bear more fruit"
"More Fruits" - God cuts off useless practices, characters or attitudes.

TO BEAR MORE FRUIT
Abide/remain in God's care and trust His process of discipline in your life.
"This treatment is for you to be cleansed, corrected, matured and bear much fruit"
Hebrews 12:5-6, 11

In every season in our lives, God is pruning us. The intention of God is for you to bear fruit. He is much more concerned about our condition than our comfort.

Spiritual Maturity Series, grow #3:
Obeying God's word (James 1:22 nasb)

“Knowledge is not enough without acting on it.”

What are the two things that God is saying to us today?

1. Christ commands us to be consistently applying God's word.

- God's word should sprout in you and your lifestyle. Obeying the bible is more than what we do, it is to be what we are.

2. Christ warns us not to deceive ourselves concerning obedience.

- We must live the truth, not merely learn the truth.

What are the benefits of obeying the word of God?

- Transforms our soul
- Eradicates sin
- Empowers ministry
- Strengthens living
- Purifies our heart

“He who has my commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me, and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”

- John 14:21

May we all be doers of the word of God through His grace and strength!
