Today, we joyfully celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost, marking the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and the Blessed Virgin Mary. Fifty days after the Resurrection, the promised Advocate came down in tongues of fire, transforming a fearful community into courageous witnesses of the Gospel. Pentecost marks the birth of the Church, sending us forth to renew the face of the earth.

As the Holy Spirit empowers the Church, we also celebrate the birth of our collective mission to spread the Good News to all nations. The same fire that ignited the hearts of the early disciples continues to burn within us today, uniting us across diverse cultures and languages into one Body of Christ.

As Altar Servers, we are called to be fueled by this same divine fire. May we always serve the altar with fervor, dedication, and love, allowing the gifts of the Holy Spirit to guide our actions and inspire our community. Let us be living instruments of God's grace, bringing His light and warmth to everyone we meet.

The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit are spiritual gifts given by God to strengthen believers in living a holy and faithful life.

These gifts are rooted in Isaiah 11:2โ€“3 and are fully poured out through the Holy Spirit.

The Catholic Church stands upon three inseparable foundations that preserve the fullness of Christian truth:

๐Ÿ“– 1. ๐—ฆ๐—”๐—–๐—ฅ๐—˜๐—— ๐—ฆ๐—–๐—ฅ๐—œ๐—ฃ๐—ง๐—จ๐—ฅ๐—˜
The written Word of God contained in the Holy Bible.

Scripture teaches, guides, corrects, and reveals Godโ€™s plan of salvation through Jesus Christ.

โ€œAll Scripture is inspired by God.โ€ โ€” 2 Timothy 3:16

๐Ÿ“œ 2. ๐—ฆ๐—”๐—–๐—ฅ๐—˜๐—— ๐—ง๐—ฅ๐—”๐——๐—œ๐—ง๐—œ๐—ข๐—ก
The teachings of Christ and the Apostles passed down through the Church from generation to generation.

Before the New Testament was written, the faith was already being preached, lived, and preserved through Apostolic Tradition.

โ€œStand firm and hold to the traditions you were taught.

The teaching authority of the Church entrusted to the Pope and the bishops in communion with him.

The Magisterium safeguards the true interpretation of Scripture and Tradition under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

โ€œHe who hears you hears Me.

Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, and the Magisterium do not contradict one another.

Together, they form one sacred deposit of faith given by Christ to His Church.

Without Scripture, we lose Godโ€™s written Word.
Without Tradition, we lose Apostolic continuity.
Without the Magisterium, confusion and division arise.

Three pillars.
One Church.
One Faith.
One Christ. โœ๏ธ

Today, we celebrate the glorious Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. Forty days after His Resurrection, Jesus ascended into heaven, body and soul, taking His place at the right hand of the Father. His departure does not mean He has abandoned us; rather, He opens the path for the Holy Spirit to guide us and prepares a place for us in His eternal kingdom.

Simultaneously, we observe World Communications Sunday. As Christ gave His disciples the great commission to "go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature," we are reminded of our call to use modern tools of communication to spread truth, hope, and the love of God.

As Altar Servers, we lift our hearts in worship and commit ourselves to being living signs of His presence in our community. Let us joyfully proclaim His victory and live as witnesses of His resurrection in our daily lives.

In the Holy Mass, the chalice holds profound spiritual significance.

The chalice is the sacred vessel that contains the wine which, Catholics believe, becomes the Precious Blood of
Jesus Christ
during the Eucharist.

โœ๏ธ WHY THE CHALICE IS SACRED

The chalice is not treated as an ordinary cup.

It is consecrated specifically for divine worship because of its connection to:

โœ๏ธ The Last Supper
โœ๏ธ Christโ€™s sacrifice
โœ๏ธ The New Covenant

Its sacred use reflects reverence for the Eucharist.

โœ๏ธ A BEAUTIFUL DETAIL

Many traditional chalices are made of precious metals or lined with gold on the inside.

This is meant to express:

โœ๏ธ Honor
โœ๏ธ Reverence
โœ๏ธ The priceless value of the Eucharist

The beauty of the vessel reflects the sacred mystery it contains.

โœ๏ธ THE CHALICE IN SCRIPTURE

At the Last Supper, Jesus took the cup and said:

โœ๏ธ โ€œThis is My Blood of the covenantโ€ฆโ€

The chalice therefore became a lasting sign of Christโ€™s sacrificial love.

โœ๏ธ A SYMBOL OF SACRIFICE

The chalice also reminds Christians of:

โœ๏ธ Christโ€™s Passion
โœ๏ธ Suffering united to God
โœ๏ธ The call to discipleship

In Scripture, the โ€œcupโ€ can symbolize both blessing and sacrifice.

โœ๏ธ THE DEEPER TRUTH

Every detail in the Mass points toward something greater.

โœ๏ธ The sacredness of the chalice reflects the sacredness of Christโ€™s gift of Himself.

The Eucharist reminds believers that God gives not merely blessings

โœ๏ธ But His very presence.

โœ๏ธ QUESTION

When you attend Mass

โœ๏ธ Do you recognize the profound mystery taking place upon the altar?

The Invocation of the Holy Spirit

During the Holy Mass, there is a sacred moment called the Epiclesis.

The word โ€œEpiclesisโ€ means:

โœ๏ธ โ€œInvocationโ€ or โ€œcalling down upon.โ€

In this moment, the priest calls upon the
Holy Spirit

to act in a powerful and sacred way.

โœ๏ธ WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE EPICLESIS?

The priest extends his hands over the bread and wine and prays that the Holy Spirit may:

โœ๏ธ Sanctify the gifts
โœ๏ธ Transform them into the Body and Blood of
Jesus Christ

This prepares for the sacred mystery of the Eucharist.

โœ๏ธ THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE EUCHARIST

The Eucharist is not ordinary bread and wine.

Through the power of the Holy Spirit and the words of Christ:

โœ๏ธ The gifts are changed sacramentally in
Transubstantiation

The Holy Spirit continues the saving work of God within the liturgy.

โœ๏ธ A SECOND INVOCATION

In many Eucharistic Prayers, the priest also invokes the Holy Spirit upon the faithful:

โœ๏ธ That believers may become one body in Christ
โœ๏ธ United in faith, love, and holiness

The Spirit transforms not only the gifts

โœ๏ธ But also the hearts of Godโ€™s people.

โœ๏ธ THE DEEPER TRUTH

The Epiclesis reminds us that the Mass is the work of God.

It is the Holy Spirit who sanctifies, transforms, and gives life.

โœ๏ธ QUESTION

When you hear the Eucharistic Prayer at Mass

โœ๏ธ Do you recognize the Holy Spirit actively present upon the altar?
