Through the Lens: NSPC 2023 Journey in Photojournalism
By: Yochabel F. Capati
My NSPC 2023 journey in photojournalism was a captivating exploration of storytelling through the lens. From the Municipal Schools Press Conference (MSPC) to the pinnacle of the National Schools Press Conference (NSPC), each stage presented unique challenges and opportunities to hone my craft and amplify voices through imagery.
At the MSPC, I captured the essence of local narratives, earning the top spot with my ability to freeze moments that encapsulated the spirit of our community. It was here that I realized the power of visual storytelling to evoke emotion and spark conversations, igniting my passion for photojournalism.
Advancing to the District Schools Press Conference (DSPC), I encountered a broader canvas of stories, each demanding a different perspective and approach. Despite securing the second position, the experience taught me to adapt my photography style to diverse settings and subjects, deepening my understanding of the multifaceted nature of storytelling.
The Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) was a turning point in my journey, where I reclaimed the top spot with images that transcended boundaries and captured the essence of regional narratives. It was a testament to the power of empathy and connection in photojournalism, as I immersed myself in the stories of individuals and communities, shedding light on their triumphs and challenges.
However, the NSPC posed its own set of challenges, where despite my best efforts, I finished fourth. It served as a reminder of the subjective nature of art and the importance of resilience in the face of adversity. It fueled my determination to push the boundaries of my creativity and continue amplifying marginalized voices through my photography.
As I reflect on my NSPC 2023 journey in photojournalism, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunities to capture stories that resonate and inspire. Each click of the shutter was not just a moment frozen in time but a testament to the resilience and humanity of the human spirit. Armed with my camera and newfound experiences, I am eager to embark on future endeavors, ready to continue capturing stories that matter and making a meaningful impact through my lens.
