Few people experiences dying to live again and tell of their extraordinary experiences which they consider as miracles. Among these lucky few is MAYOR PORFIRIO PEREZ, the former Mayor of Pilar, Capiz. On February 2, 1989, Mayor Perez suffered a very serious stroke due to Coronary Thrombosis. He was brought

to Pilar Medicare and Community Hospital for immediate and emergency medical care. While in the hospital, he almost lost consciousness and was about to pass away, when, he said, he saw the Blessed Virgin with something round and black at her back, descending from the Top of Agtalin Hill located at Barangay Dulangan, Pilar, Capiz to the highway just down the hill. When the Blessed Virgin reached the street, Mayor Perez regained complete consciousness and he told Dr. Dumol, the attending physician, “Doctor, I will still survive.”

Because of his serious condition, few hours after he regained consciousness and was able to rest, he was brought to St. One day during his confinement, he saw the picture of the Lady of the Miraculous Medal on the calendar in his room, the very same Blessed Virgin who descended from Agtalin Hill. When the Mother Superior of St. Anthony Hospital visited him in his room, he told her that he will construct the image of the Lady of the Miraculous Medal on Agtalin Hill at Dulangan, Pilar, Capiz. The Mother Superior was very happy to hear about it and she encouraged him to pursue with his plan. Two weeks after his stay at St. Anthony Hospital, he was brought to the Philippine Heart Center in Manila for a more rigid check-up, where he stayed for another two weeks. He was released from the Philippine Heart Center after his two-week stay there. He came home and after four months of recuperating in his house at Natividad, Pilar, Capiz, he was visited by MR. DANDY ONG, his friend from Roxas City, who like him, also experienced miracles in their family. mayor Perez told Dandy Ong about his plans of erecting the image of the Blessed Virgin at Agtalin Hill, and he told him that it will probably cost two hundred thousand pesos and even more. When Dandy Ong promised to procure the amount while Mayor Perez should only be responsible of leveling the top of Agtalin Hill and constructing the road going up the hill, Mayor Perez felt that his wish will finally be realized. Then, a group was organized by both Dandy Ong and Mayor Perez and was named the Agtalin Development Foundation. Through the efforts of the Ong family with the cooperation of Mayor Perez and the Agtalin Development Foundation, the construction of the image of the Lady of the Miraculous Medal which costs almost Two Million Pesos (Php 2,000,000.00) was materialized. Today, devotees of the Blessed Virgin from all over Western Visayas flock to Agtalin Hill every 1st Saturday of every month to hear mass. Those who come without fail every 1st Saturday, tell of a lot of blessings in their life. But, nobody has ever asked why such image of the Blessed Virgin was constructed at Agtalin Hill, thus this story as related by Mayor Perez. ROSARIO B. CUÑADA+
