ASH WEDNESDAY 2023 | FEBRUARY 22, 2023

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent and this year it falls on the 22nd day of February. It is the first day of the Lenten fast which will hold until Eastertide and because of this, it is a day associated with prayer, reflection, sacrifice, and repentance. It marks the beginning of the 40-day Lenten Season (excluding Sundays). It is a universal day of fasting (for 18-60 years old) and abstinence from meat (for 14 years old and above). May this celebration serve as a reminder for us to repent our sins and reconcile with the Lord.

Today we feature the Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lord's Transfiguration, also known as Palo Metropolitan Cathedral or simply Palo Cathedral, a Roman Catholic church in Palo, Leyte, Philippines, that is part of the Vicariate of Palo under the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Palo.

The Palo Cathedral is not only a religious landmark, but it is also an important historical structure. From October 1944 to March 1945, the church served as a hospital for the wounded during WWII.

The church was among those heavily damaged in November 2013, but it still became a refuge for several survivors. The church grounds were also the final resting place for those who died as a result of the typhoon.

Guiseppe Pinto, Pope Francis' Apostolic Nuncio to the country, led the mass at the roofless cathedral on Christmas 2013. Following the church's repairs and rehabilitations, Pope Francis himself visited the Cathedral on January 17, 2015, and blessed the victims' graves.

The St. Teresa of Calcutta Mission Station is happy to announce the RECEPTION OF THE RELIC OF MOTHER TERESA OF CALCUTTA THIS COMING SUNDAY, JUNE 26, 2022.

The entire Mission Station Community is truly grateful to the Missionaries of Charity for this wonderful gift to our church. Eucharistic celebration will be at 8:00 o 'clock in the morning.
