So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience;
— Colossians 3:12

Let’s begin with honest self-appraisal – not who we believe we are as mabait, maayos, may magandang pag-uugali, or anything related to personality and humanity.

Apostle Paul in his opening sentence in v12 reminded the believers in Colossae who they were → “chosen of God,” before addressing them to “put on a heart of compassion, kindness, etc” Bakit mahalaga ito?

Because anyone can claim to be a believer, “holy and beloved.”

True believers, “chosen of God, holy and beloved” ay nakikitaan, by their very nature “compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience,” plus four more characteristics = the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

In short, this Christian character is not a way to earn God’s love or favor – it is the result of already possessing it. Kailangan lang na makita ito sa atin araw-araw, hindi lang tuwing linggo.

We must consciously put on (intensional) Christlike virtues –
• compassion softens our hearts
• kindness shapes our actions
• humility removes our pride
• gentleness controls our behaviour
• patience reflects God’s grace toward us

🙏
Lord, thank You for choosing and loving me. Help me today to put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, so that others may see Christ in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Then Peter came up and said to him, Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times? Jesus said to him, I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.
— Matthew 18:21–22

Matthew 18 emphasizes reconciliation and healthy Christian relationships among believers and with others outside the church – in every offense, there is a need for forgiveness.

Jesus said, forgiveness is not about keeping records of offenses; hindi rin nagtatanim ng galit o sama ng loob, it is about reflecting the mercy we ourselves have received from God.

Pero hindi rin ibig sabihin na babalewalain nalang ang nagawang kasalanan ng iba. It means refusing to let bitterness become the ruler of the heart.

Forgiveness means entrusting judgment to God. However, believers should refrain from asking God to discipline, chastise, or punish individuals on their behalf, instead ask God to reveal any resentment one is still carrying.

Freedom often begins when forgiveness replaces the need to get even.

🙏
Father, thank You for the mercy You continually show me. Help me forgive others with the same grace You have given to me, and guard my heart from bitterness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
— Galatians 3:28

Under faith (faith in Christ alone), all believers share the same privilege and position. Magkakaiba man ang antas ng pananampalataya, lahat ay pantay-pantay sa Diyos.

Within the body of Christ (the church), all have the same relationship to God. All are of equal value, mapa-bata man o matanda, maging baguhan o matagal nang mananampalataya.

But in context, may kondisyon na inilatag si Apostle Paul – one must confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Romans 10:9-10). It is only through faith in Christ Jesus that makes one a son or a daughter of God.

Now, all who trust in Christ are adult sons and daughters, no longer children in need of a “disciplinarian” teacher (the Law). Christ is the real teacher, who takes our hand, and shows us the way of God through grace.

Therefore, being a church leader or a long-time member, is not a basis for spiritual superiority or overbearing; just as the Israelites in Paul’s day wrongly assumed their privileged status set them above others.

Let’s see others first through Christ’s point of view, not through labels or differences. The gospel calls us to “honor the unity” God has created.

🙏
Lord, remove pride and division from my heart. Help me value others as You do, and live in the unity that comes through Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen. See less

"Remember to keep holy the Lord's day..." with a heart of thanksgiving and gratitude we honor Him as we sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High! 👏☝️👏

Grateful to God for giving us the chance to transition from our busy lives into a spirit of reverence as we let our lives be built on Him.

"Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness."
