FEAST OF SAINT BARTHOLOMEW, APOSTLE
August 24

“Can anything good come from Nazareth?” (John 1:46)

St. Bartholomew, traditionally identified as Nathanael, was one of the Twelve Apostles chosen by Christ. Jesus Himself praised him as a man “without deceit.” After receiving the Holy Spirit, he went forth to proclaim the Gospel, and ancient tradition associates his missionary work with distant lands, particularly Armenia.

There, tradition holds that he was martyred for the faith. He was reportedly flayed alive and then crucified or beheaded after refusing to abandon his preaching of Christ. Though the details of his martyrdom vary among ancient accounts, his witness remains a powerful testimony of steadfast faith and courage unto death.

May Saint Bartholomew teach us to proclaim Christ with sincerity and remain faithful to Him, whatever the cost.

Saint Bartholomew the Apostle, pray for us!

August 23 | Feast of St. Rose of Lima, OP
Secondary Patroness of the Philippines

St. Rose of Lima (1586–1617), born Isabel Flores de Oliva in Lima, Peru, was the first canonized saint of the Americas. A Dominican tertiary, she was known for her profound love for Christ, devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, prayer, chastity, and life of sacrifice.

Despite her beauty and her family’s hopes for her marriage, Rose consecrated herself to God and embraced a life of prayer and penance. Her holiness and fidelity to Christ made her a witness of radical love and devotion.

Canonized in 1671 by Pope Clement X, St. Rose is honored as the patroness of Peru, the Americas, and the Philippines.

St. Rose of Lima, OP, pray for us!

Memorial of St. Maximilian Mary Kolbe, Priest and Martyr
August 14

Today, we honor St. Maximilian Mary Kolbe, a Franciscan priest and martyr who gave his life in place of another prisoner at Auschwitz.

His life teaches us that Christian love means giving oneself for others, following Christ’s command: “Love one another as I have loved you.”

May St. Maximilian inspire us to live with courageous faith, selfless love, and complete trust in God.

St. Maximilian Mary Kolbe, pray for us. 🙏

Memorial of St. Clare of Assisi, Virgin
August 11

Today, we honor St. Clare of Assisi, virgin and foundress of the Poor Clares. Following Christ in the spirit of St. Francis, she embraced a life of poverty, prayer, and contemplative love.

Her life teaches us that true riches are found not in material possessions, but in Christ, whom we seek and love above all things.

St. Clare of Assisi, pray for us.

Memorial of St. Dominic, Priest
August 8

Today, we honor St. Dominic, priest and founder of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans), whose life was devoted to proclaiming the truth of the Gospel through preaching, study, prayer, and charity. Recognizing the need to defend the faith against error, he founded an order dedicated to preaching with both conviction and holiness.

St. Dominic understood that authentic preaching flows from a deep relationship with God. His commitment to Sacred Scripture, sound doctrine, and a life of prayer continues to inspire the Church’s mission of evangelization. His sons and daughters in the Dominican Family have enriched the Church through their faithful witness, theological scholarship, and service to God’s people.

As we celebrate his memorial, may we imitate his love for Christ and His Church, seek the truth with humility, and courageously proclaim the Gospel in both word and example.

St. Dominic, pray for us!
