THURSDAY | 04-30-2026:
CHRISTIAN LOVE REJECTS FAVORITISM BASED ON STATUS.
James condemns acts of favoritism. Often we treat a well-dressed, impressive-looking person better than someone who looks shabby. We do this because we would rather identify with successful people than with apparent failures. The irony, as James reminds us, is that the supposed winners may have gained their impressive lifestyle at our expense. In addition, the rich find it difficult to identify with the Lord Jesus, who came as a humble servant. Are you easily impressed by status, wealth, or fame? Are you partial to the “haves” while ignoring the “have nots"? This attitude is sinful. God views all people as equals, and if he favors anyone, it is the poor and the powerless. We should follow his example.

WEDNESDAY | 04-29-2026:
BIBLE READING: James 2:1-13KEY BIBLE VERSE: Yes indeed, it is good when you truly obey our Lord’s royal command found in the Scriptures: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you pay special attention to the rich, you are committing a sin, for you are guilty of breaking that law. (James 2:8-9)

POWER BASED ON STATUS IS UNACCEPTABLE AMONG FAITHFUL BELIEVERS.
In this chapter James argues against favoritism and for the necessity of good deeds. He presents three principles of faith:

(1) Commitment is an essential part of faith. You cannot be a Christian simply by affirming the right doctrines or agreeing with biblical facts (2:19). You must commit your mind and heart to Christ.

(2) Right actions are the natural by-products of true faith. A genuine Christian will have a changed life (2:18).

(3) Faith without good deeds doesn’t do anybody any good-it is useless (2:14-17).

James’s teachings are consistent with Paul’s teaching that we receive salvation by faith alone. Paul emphasizes the purpose of faith-to bring salvation. James emphasizes the results of faith-a changed life.

BIBLE READING: Galatians 2:1-10KEY BIBLE VERSE: The leaders of the church who were there had nothing to add to what I was preaching. (By the way, their reputation as great leaders made no difference to me, for God has no favorites.) (Galatians 2:6)

THERE OUGHT NOT TO BE STATUS SEEKING WITHIN THE BODY OF CHRIST.
It’s easy to rate people on the basis of their official status and to be intimidated by powerful people. But Paul was not intimidated by the “great leaders” because all believers are equal in Christ. We should show respect for our spiritual leaders, but our ultimate allegiance must be to Christ. We are to serve him with our whole being. God doesn’t rate us according to our status; he looks at our thoughts and intentions (1 Samuel 16:7).

STATUS
WHAT PART DOES STATUS PLAY IN THE LIFE OF A CHRISTIAN?

MONDAY | 04-27-2026
BIBLE READING: Luke 14:7-14KEY BIBLE VERSE: Invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. Then at the resurrection of the godly, God will reward you for inviting those who could not repay you. (Luke 14:13-14)

STATUS SHOULD ALWAYS GET LESS HONOR THAN SERVICE.
Jesus taught two lessons here. First, he spoke to the guests, telling them not to seek places of honor. Service is more important in God’s kingdom than status. Second, he told the host not to be exclusive about whom he invites. God opens his kingdom to everyone.

A CHRISTIAN LEAVES MATTERS OF STATUS IN GOD’S HANDS.
Jesus advised people not to rush for the best places at a feast. People today are just as eager to raise their social status, whether by being with the right people, dressing for success, or driving the right car. Whom do you try to impress? Rather than aiming for prestige, look for a place where you can serve. If God wants you to serve on a wider scale, he will invite you to take a higher place.

SATURDAY | 04-25-2026:
BIBLE READING: 2 Timothy 2:14-26
KEY BIBLE VERSE: Work hard so God can say to you, “Well done.” Be a good workman, one who does not need to be ashamed when God examines your work. Know what his Word says and means. (2 Timothy 2:15, tlb)

Our life-style should be consistent with God’s Word.
Because God will examine what kind of workers we have been for him, we should build our life on his Word and build his Word into our life—it alone tells us how to live for him and serve him.

Believers who ignore Bible Doctrine will certainly be ashamed at the judgment.

Consistent and diligent study of God’s Word is vital; otherwise we will be lulled into neglecting God and our true purpose for living.

FRIDAY | 04-24-2026:
BIBLE READING: Matthew 5:1-12
KEY BIBLE VERSE: When you are reviled and persecuted and lied about because you are my followers—wonderful! Be happy about it! Be very glad! for a tremendous reward awaits you up in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted too. (Matthew 5:11-12, tlb)

Our life-style should be a reflection of God’s kingdom.
With Jesus’ recent announcement that the kingdom was near (4:17), people were naturally asking, “How do I qualify to be in God’s kingdom?” Jesus said that God’s kingdom is organized differently from worldly kingdoms. In the kingdom of heaven, wealth and power and authority are unimportant. Kingdom people seek different blessings and benefits, and they have different attitudes. Their entire life-style ought to be different. Are your attitudes a carbon copy of the world’s selfishness, pride, and lust for power, or do they reflect the humility and self-sacrifice of Jesus, your King?

THURSDAY | 04-23-2026:
BIBLE READING: Exodus 23:20-33
KEY BIBLE VERSE: You must not worship the gods of these other nations, nor sacrifice to them in any way, and you must not follow the evil example of these heathen people; you must utterly conquer them and break down their shameful idols. (Exodus 23:24, tlb)

Our life-style should reflect what we believe.
If you’re in the furnace, it’s easy to catch fire. God warned the Israelites about their neighbors whose beliefs and actions could turn them away from him. We also live with neighbors whose values may be completely different from ours. We are called to maintain a life-style that shows our faith. This can be a struggle, especially if our Christian life-style differs from the norm. Our life should show that we put obeying God before doing what is praised and accepted by society.

WEDNESDAY | 04-22-2026:
BIBLE READING: 1 Corinthians 11:1-16
KEY BIBLE VERSE: In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. (1 Corinthians 11:11, niv)

We must live in but not be of our culture.
In talking about head coverings and length of hair, Paul is saying that believers should look and behave in ways that are honorable within their own culture. In many cultures long hair on men is considered appropriate and masculine. In Corinth, it was thought to be a sign of male prostitution in the pagan temples. And women with short hair were labeled prostitutes. Paul was saying that in the Corinthian culture, Christian women should keep their long hair. If short hair on women was a sign of prostitution, then a Christian woman with short hair would find it even more difficult to be a believable witness for Jesus Christ. Paul wasn’t saying we should adopt all the practices of our culture, but that we should avoid appearances and behavior that detract from our ultimate goal of being believable witnesses for Jesus Christ and demonstrating our Christian faith.

TUEDSAY | 04-21-2026:
BIBLE READING: John 4:1-26
KEY BIBLE VERSE: The Samaritan woman said to [Jesus], “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) (John 4:9, niv)

Cultural practices must be evaluated by Christ’s standards.
This woman (1) was a Samaritan, a member of the hated mixed race, (2) was known to be living in sin, and (3) was in a public place. No respectable Jewish man would talk to a woman under such circumstances. But Jesus did. The gospel is for every person, no matter what his or her race, social position, or past sins. We must be prepared to share this gospel at any time and in any place. Jesus crossed all barriers to share the gospel, and we who follow him must do no less.
