Parish fiestas occupy a special place in the life of Filipino Catholic communities. More than cultural celebrations marked by food, music, and gatherings, they are fundamentally acts of faith—moments when a community pauses to remember its identity, give thanks for God’s blessings, and renew its commitment to live the Gospel. A parish fiesta brings together the sacred and the communal, uniting liturgy and life, devotion and fellowship. It is a time when the Church becomes visibly alive: neighbors reconnect, ministries collaborate, and the faithful rediscover that they belong to something greater than themselves—a community journeying together in Christ.
In the case of our parish dedicated to Mary as Mother of Good Counsel, the fiesta takes on a deeper spiritual meaning. This title of the Blessed Mother highlights her role as one who listens attentively to God and guides others toward wise and faithful decisions. In Scripture, Mary is the model disciple—she listens, reflects, and responds with trust. Celebrating her under this title invites the parish not only to honor her, but to imitate her. The fiesta becomes a call to cultivate a listening heart, to seek God’s will in the midst of life’s complexities, and to discern together as a community shaped by prayer and reflection.
The significance of the fiesta is also seen in its power to strengthen communion. Preparations for the celebration—novenas, liturgies, and shared responsibilities—bring out the spirit of bayanihan. Different groups contribute their time, talent, and resources, embodying a Church that is participatory and synodal. In honoring Mary, Mother of Good Counsel, the parish is reminded that true unity is not merely organizational but spiritual: it flows from a shared openness to God’s guidance. The fiesta thus becomes a lived experience of “journeying together,” where listening and discernment are practiced not only individually but collectively.
At the same time, the parish fiesta serves as a bridge between past, present, and future. It recalls the history of the parish, the faith of those who came before, and the many graces received through the years. It strengthens the present community by renewing relationships and deepening devotion. And it looks forward with hope, especially as the parish anticipates milestones such as our golden jubilee in 2029. Under the patronage of Mary, Mother of Good Counsel, our community entrusts its future to her care, confident that she will continue to guide it along the path of faithfulness.
Ultimately, the parish fiesta is a celebration of God’s abiding presence, made tangible through the maternal care of Mary. It reminds the faithful that they are a people called not only to rejoice but also to listen, to discern, and to walk together in love. In honoring Mary as Mother of Good Counsel, the parish affirms its desire to grow as a community that seeks God’s wisdom in all things and reflects that wisdom in its life and mission. Through her intercession, the fiesta becomes not just an annual event, but a continuing invitation to deeper faith, stronger unity, and a more discerning journey toward Christ.
Happy Fiesta, everyone!
