FEAST OF SAINT BARTHOLOMEW, Apostle and Special Patron of the Rogationists | Aug 24

Saint Bartholomew was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus, though little is known about his life from the New Testament. He is traditionally identified with Nathanael, a disciple introduced in the Gospel of John. He was brought to Jesus by Philip and initially questioned whether anything good could come from Nazareth, but he soon recognized Jesus as the Son of God.

After the Resurrection and Ascension of Christ, Bartholomew is believed to have preached the Gospel in various regions, particularly in India and Armenia. Ancient traditions describe him as a missionary who brought the Christian faith to distant peoples and endured persecution because of his commitment to Christ.

According to tradition, Bartholomew suffered martyrdom in Armenia, where he was reportedly flayed and then beheaded. Because of his missionary zeal and willingness to give his life for the Gospel, he is remembered as a model of faith, courage, and steadfastness in following Christ.

Strengthen in us, O Lord, the faith, by which the blessed Apostle Bartholomew clung wholeheartedly to your Son, and grant that through the help of his prayers your Church may become for all the nations the sacrament of salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
