SUNDAY SERMON

John 15:1-5 📖
15 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing..
Gospel of John 15:1–5 is a teaching of Jesus Christ about the relationship between Himself and His followers. Jesus describes Himself as “the true vine,” God the Father as the gardener, and believers as the branches. Just as branches receive life and nourishment from the vine, people receive spiritual life, strength, and growth through staying connected to Jesus. The gardener cares for the vine by pruning the branches so they can bear more fruit, which symbolizes God shaping and refining believers through discipline, challenges, and spiritual growth. The “fruit” represents the good results of a faithful life, such as love, kindness, obedience, and good works. Jesus emphasizes the importance of “remaining” or abiding in Him, meaning to continue in faith, prayer, trust, and obedience. He explains that just as a branch cannot survive or produce fruit by itself, people cannot experience true spiritual growth apart from Him. When Jesus says, “Apart from me you can do nothing,” He means that lasting spiritual transformation and eternal life cannot be achieved through human effort alone. Overall, the passage teaches that spiritual life and fruitfulness come from a close and continuous relationship with Christ.
