What Happens When God Stops Getting Your Best?

You may not stop serving God.

You may simply start giving Him what is left.

Leftover time.
Leftover energy.
Leftover attention.
Leftover worship.

And slowly, God becomes part of your schedule instead of the center of it.

Malachi confronted Israel because they were offering God sacrifices they would never have offered to their governor.

“Offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee?”
— Malachi 1:8

They were still giving.

But they were no longer giving their best.

That's the danger.

You can still attend church and lose your hunger.

You can still sing and lose your worship.

You can still give and lose your sacrifice.

You can still serve and lose your heart.

God doesn't merely look at what we give.

He looks at what we consider worthy of giving.

Proverbs says:

“Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase.”
— Proverbs 3:9

God deserves more than whatever survives after everything else has received our best.

So ask yourself:

Is God receiving my first—

or simply my leftovers?

Because what we consistently give our best to reveals what we truly value.

Not every burden looks like a problem.

Some burdens look like blessings.

The promotion.

The relationship.

The answered prayer.

The financial increase.

The opportunity.

The position.

The success you once prayed for.

God can bless you with something good,

and yet that good thing can slowly become dangerous when it takes the place of God.

Deuteronomy 8:11–14 warns:

“Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God…”

The danger wasn't simply having blessings.

The danger was becoming so full of blessings that they forgot the One who gave them.

“A blessing becomes a burden when you love the gift more than the Giver.”

Ask yourself:

Has what I prayed for become what I worship?

Has the blessing taken more of my attention than God?

Am I protecting the gift while neglecting the Giver?

Would I still seek God if He never gave me another blessing?

Because sometimes the very thing we once asked God for can become the thing that slowly pulls our heart away from Him.

The gift was never supposed to replace the Giver.

The blessing was never supposed to become your identity.

The opportunity was never supposed to become your god.

**Enjoy what God gives you.

But never let it have what belongs to Him.**

Hold the blessing with open hands.

Thank Him for it.

Use it for His glory.

And remember where it came from.

Because when your hands become so full of gifts that you can no longer see the Cross,

your hands may be full,

but your heart may be drifting.

Never become so blessed that you forget the One who blessed you.

He is preparing a mighty work, networking His people together as a foundation and channel for His flow. You are not alone in this divine preparation.

One of the greatest dangers in the spiritual life is receiving God's gifts and slowly forgetting God Himself.

The Israelites had seen miracles.

They had witnessed the Red Sea part.
They had eaten heavenly provision.
They had experienced God's protection and deliverance.

Yet when Moses delayed on the mountain, they turned their attention to a golden calf.

What God had given them was no longer enough.

They wanted something visible, something they could control, something that would fit their preferences.

The tragedy was not just idolatry.

It was misplaced worship.

Anything that takes God's place in our hearts becomes an idol, even if it started as a blessing.

A career can become an idol.
A relationship can become an idol.
A ministry can become an idol.
Even the blessings of God can become idols when they receive the affection that belongs to God alone.

The purpose of every blessing is to lead us closer to the Blesser, not farther from Him.

When God's gifts become more important than God's presence, something is out of order.

Be thankful for what God has given you.

But never allow the blessing to take the place of the One who gave it.

You are not lost. You are being led.

What If You're Strong In Church But Weak In Private?

You can look spiritual in public and still be struggling in private.

You can worship loudly in church,
serve faithfully,
know the right Scriptures,
and say the right things—

while your prayer life is dying when nobody is watching.

That's the danger of an outward Christianity.

Jesus warned about people who looked righteous before others but had a different reality within.

“For ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones.”
— Matthew 23:27

God isn't impressed by the version of you that everyone sees.

He sees the hidden places.

Your private thoughts.
Your secret habits.
Your prayer life.
Your compromises.
Your relationship with sin.

David understood this when he prayed:

“Search me, O God, and know my heart.”
— Psalm 139:23

Because real spiritual strength isn't proven by how powerful you look in church.

It's proven by who you are when there is no audience.

If your public faith is strong but your private life is falling apart, don't protect the image.

Fix the foundation.

Return to prayer.
Return to the Word.
Return to repentance.

Because God isn't calling you to look spiritual.

He's calling you to be transformed.

What are you really chasing?

Because what you consistently pursue reveals what you truly value.

You can say God is first.

You can say you trust Him.

You can say you want His will.

But your direction often reveals your desire long before your words do.

Your time reveals it.

Your attention reveals it.

Your priorities reveal it.

Your choices reveal it.

Matthew 6:33 says:

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Seek ye first.

Not seek God when everything else is secured.

Not seek Him when you have time left.

Not seek Him only when you need something.

First.

“Your direction reveals your desire long before your words do.”

Maybe you're chasing success.

More money.

Recognition.

A relationship.

A better life.

A dream.

More followers.

More opportunities.

And there's nothing inherently wrong with wanting good things.

But ask yourself:

What are you willing to sacrifice to get them?

If prayer is always the first thing you sacrifice,

If God's Word is always pushed aside,

If obedience becomes inconvenient,

If your relationship with God keeps getting whatever time is left,

then perhaps what you're chasing has already taken a place it was never meant to have.

The world will always give you something else to chase.

Another achievement.

Another distraction.

Another desire.

Another temporary reward.

But Jesus says:

Seek first the Kingdom.

So stop for a moment.

Look at your life.

Look at your schedule.

Look at where your energy goes.

Look at what occupies your thoughts.

Then ask honestly:

“What am I really chasing?”

Because your feet may reveal what your lips never say.

Turn your heart back toward God.

Seek Him first.

And let everything else find its proper place behind Him.

We often ask God to speak louder.

Sometimes He is asking us to become quieter.

Elijah expected God to move through the dramatic.

A powerful wind.
A violent earthquake.
A consuming fire.

But God's voice was not in any of them.

It came in a still, small voice.

The problem is not that God has stopped speaking.

The problem is that our lives are often filled with so much noise that we can no longer hear Him.

Noise is not always sound.

Sometimes it is busyness.
Distractions.
Worry.
Entertainment.
The endless opinions of other people.

When every voice has our attention, God's voice can become easy to overlook.

That is why some of the deepest encounters with God happen in moments of stillness, solitude, and surrender.

God often removes the noise before He reveals His direction.

He quiets the distractions before He clarifies His will.

If you feel like God is silent, it may be time to step away from the noise and draw closer to His presence.
