๐…๐„๐€๐’๐“ ๐“๐Ž๐ƒ๐€๐˜ | Today, we honor Saint Stephen of Hungary, first King of Hungary, faithful ruler, and devoted servant of Christ who led his people to the Christian faith.

Born in the tenth century, Saint Stephen was raised in a pagan environment but was baptized as a young boy together with his father. After becoming ruler of the Magyars, he dedicated his reign to spreading Christianity throughout Hungary and establishing the Church in his kingdom. With the support of the Pope, he strengthened the faith of his people and was crowned the first King of Hungary on Christmas Day in 1001. Through his wisdom, leadership, and devotion to God, Saint Stephen helped build a Christian nation and became a model of faith for rulers and all the faithful. He is honored as the patron saint of Hungary.

๐…๐„๐€๐’๐“ ๐“๐Ž๐ƒ๐€๐˜ | Today, we honor Saint Roch (Saint Rocco), faithful pilgrim, miracle worker, and compassionate servant of those suffering from illness.

Born into a noble family in Montpellier, France, in the fourteenth century, Saint Roch dedicated his life to serving God and those in need. After the death of his parents, he gave away his possessions and set out on a pilgrimage to Rome. During his journey through Italy, he encountered communities suffering from a devastating epidemic and devoted himself to caring for the sick, with many being healed through his prayers. When he later became ill himself in Piacenza, he was abandoned and left to suffer, but God provided help through a faithful dog and its owner who cared for him. Upon returning home, Saint Roch was imprisoned and died in captivity. His life of charity and trust in God has made him a beloved patron saint of pilgrims, surgeons, and those seeking protection from epidemics and disease.

๐…๐„๐€๐’๐“ ๐“๐Ž๐ƒ๐€๐˜ | Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, honoring the glorious mystery of Mary being taken body and soul into Heaven at the end of her earthly life.

The Assumption celebrates the Churchโ€™s teaching that the Blessed Virgin Mary, by a special grace from God, was preserved from the corruption of the tomb and was taken into the glory of Heaven, following the example of her Son, Jesus Christ. Although this belief has been held by Christians for centuries, it was officially declared a dogma of the Catholic Church by Pope Pius XII in 1950 through the Apostolic Constitution Munificentissimus Deus. This solemn celebration reminds us of Maryโ€™s unique role in salvation history and gives hope to all believers in the promise of eternal life with God.

๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐˜‚๐˜€ ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜†, Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God and Queen of Heaven, pray for us. Help us to follow your example of faith, humility, and obedience to Godโ€™s will. May the celebration of your Assumption strengthen our hope in the resurrection and inspire us to seek the glory of Heaven through lives of love and devotion to Christ.

Blessed Virgin Mary, assumed into Heaven, pray for us!

Saint Maximilian Kolbe dedicated his life to spreading the Gospel and promoting devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. During the Second World War, he was arrested by the N***s in 1941 and imprisoned at the Auschwitz concentration camp. There, he offered his own life in place of a fellow prisoner who had been condemned to death, showing extraordinary courage and love for his neighbor. Through his heroic sacrifice and unwavering faith, Saint Maximilian became a powerful witness to Christโ€™s love and mercy. Pope Saint John Paul II declared him the โ€œPatron Saint of Our Difficult Century.โ€

Saint Pontian and Saint Hippolytus were early Christian leaders who suffered persecution under Emperor Maximinus Thrax. Exiled and sent to the salt mines of Sardinia, they endured hardship for their faith. During this time, Saint Hippolytus reconciled with the Church, and together they became martyrs for Christ. Their lives remind us of the importance of forgiveness, unity, and steadfast faith.

Saint Jane Frances de Chantal was a French woman known for her deep faith, compassion, and service to others. Born in Assisi, Italy, in 1194, Saint Clare was inspired by Saint Francis of Assisi to dedicate her life to God through prayer, poverty, and simplicity. At eighteen, she left her family home and embraced a life of consecration, receiving her religious habit from Saint Francis at the Portiuncula. She later founded the community of the Poor Clares, leading her sisters as abbess for over thirty years with humility, courage, and deep love for Christ. Her devotion and example continue to inspire the Church today.

๐…๐„๐€๐’๐“ ๐“๐Ž๐ƒ๐€๐˜ | Today, we honor Saint Lawrence, deacon, martyr, and courageous witness to Christ, who remained faithful to the Gospel even unto death.

Saint Lawrence served as one of the seven deacons of the Church in Rome during the third century. Entrusted with the care of the Church's treasures and the service of the poor, he faithfully carried out his ministry with charity and humility. During the persecution under Emperor Valerian, Saint Lawrence was ordered to surrender the Church's riches. Instead, he presented the poor, the sick, and the needy, declaring them to be the true treasures of the Church. For his unwavering faith and bold witness, he was condemned to death and suffered martyrdom on a gridiron in A.D. 258. Even in the midst of his suffering, tradition recalls his remarkable courage and holy humor, as he said to his executioners, "You may turn me over; I am done on this side." Saint Lawrence is honored as the patron saint of deacons, cooks, librarians, archivists, and comedians.

๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐˜‚๐˜€ ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜†, Saint Lawrence, faithful deacon and glorious martyr, pray for us. Teach us to serve Christ with generous hearts, especially by caring for the poor and those in need. May your joyful witness inspire us to live lives of charity, faith, and steadfast devotion to the Gospel.

๐…๐„๐€๐’๐“ ๐“๐Ž๐ƒ๐€๐˜ | Today, we honor Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein), philosopher, Discalced Carmelite nun, martyr, and faithful witness to Christ.

Born Edith Stein into a Jewish family in Germany, Saint Teresa Benedicta lost her belief in God during her teenage years. Her search for truth eventually led her to the Catholic faith after reading the autobiography of Saint Teresa of รvila, an experience that transformed her life. She was baptized into the Catholic Church in 1922 and, twelve years later, entered the Discalced Carmelite Order, taking the name Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. During the Second World War, she was arrested by the N***s because of her Jewish heritage after the Dutch bishops publicly condemned the persecution of Jews. In 1942, she was taken to the Auschwitz concentration camp, where she was killed in a gas chamber. Through her unwavering faith, love of truth, and courageous witness, Saint Teresa Benedicta became a powerful symbol of hope, reconciliation, and fidelity to Christ even in the face of persecution. She is honored as a patron saint of Europe.

May your witness strengthen us to follow Christ faithfully and to be instruments of peace, justice, and hope in our world.

Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, pray for us!
