Pastor, Ayaw Ko Na Mag-Church
One afternoon during our campus mentoring group, a student quietly pulled me aside and said, “Pastor… ayaw ko na mag-church.”
I didn’t expect it, so I gently asked, “Bakit, ano nangyari?”
His eyes began to water as he whispered, “Pastor, ang dumi-dumi ko sa harap ng Diyos. Hindi ako karapat-dapat lumapit sa Kanya.”
This student had only been attending worship service for a few weeks, yet he already felt too unworthy, too dirty, too far gone. He believed someone like him didn’t belong to God.
I looked at him and said, “Alam mo… totoo naman, madumi ka. Pero madumi rin si Pastor. Lahat tayo marumi dahil sa kasalanan. Pero may mas totoo pa: may naglinis na ng lahat ng karumihan natin, and Panginoong Hesus.”
I told him, “We don’t come to God because we’re clean. We come because only He can make us clean. He accepts us as we are… and He changes us one day at a time.”
That afternoon, I encouraged him, not to run away, but to keep coming, to keep drawing near to Jesus. Because of what Christ did on the cross, we are made clean and made new.
The boy who once felt “too dirty for God” is now experiencing the transforming grace of Christ.
