The deepest meaning of our devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows is that Mary always leads us closer to her Son, Jesus. We do not honor Mary instead of Jesus; we honor her because she faithfully followed Him, especially through His Passion and at the foot of the Cross.

Her Seven Sorrows invite us to look beyond her suffering and discover the love, sacrifice, and saving grace of Jesus.

In our own joys, struggles, and sorrows, Mary gently reminds us: ๐’๐ญ๐š๐ฒ ๐œ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฌ๐ž ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฆ๐ฒ ๐’๐จ๐ง. When we walk with her, we learn to trust Jesus more deeply, carry our crosses with faith, and remain faithful even when the journey is difficult.

For us Filipinos, storms and calamities are part of the realities we often faceโ€”typhoons, floods, earthquakes, landslides, and the loss that comes with them. In these moments, our devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows becomes especially meaningful. Mary knows what it means to stand in the midst of suffering while holding on to faith.

Her sorrow reminds us that we can grieve without losing hope. And just as Mary remained beside Jesus in His darkest hour, we are called to remain beside those who suffer todayโ€”sharing what we have, helping affected families, praying together, and caring for our common home.

For ordinary Filipino Catholics, devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows remains relevant because Mary understands the realities of suffering. In times of grief, poverty, calamities, family struggles, and uncertainty, she reminds us that we are never alone.

But Mary does not teach us to simply endure our sorrows. She teaches us to respond with faith, compassion, and courageโ€”to reach out to those who are struggling, help families in need, and stand beside those who feel forgotten.

The devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows reminds us that our pain and struggles can be brought to God through prayer. As we meditate on the Seven Sorrows of Mary, we can also entrust to her our own burdensโ€”our families, loved ones, worries, grief, and personal struggles.

Mary reminds us that we do not have to carry our sorrows alone. Like her, we are invited to remain close to Christ, especially in moments when life becomes difficult.

As we continue preparing our hearts for the upcoming Feast, let us discover another beautiful fact surrounding our Sorrowful Mother.

Today, the universal Catholic calendar celebrates the Solemnity of Our Lady of Sorrows on September 15, the day after the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

But in the traditional calendar, Our Lady of Sorrows was also honored on the Friday before Palm Sundayโ€”a tradition that continues to be observed in many communities today.

These two celebrations point us to the same profound mystery: Maryโ€™s faithful presence beside Jesus in His Passion and suffering.
