A Testimony of Healing Through the Intercession of St. Pio
“St. Pio, pray for us”
Every Sunday, mostly I joined with the Friends of Sto Pio in the praying of the Holy Rosary and the Litany to St. Pio at Monte de Sto. Pio, Mt. La Verna, Palo. Each prayer reminds me of God’s boundless mercy and of the extraordinary grace I received through the intercession of St. Pio.
A year ago, my life changed unexpectedly when I suffered a stroke. Overnight, I lost the ability to walk. For nearly a month, I remained confined to a hospital bed, wondering if I would ever regain my strength. It was a painful and humbling experience that tested both my body and my faith.
Strangely, during those difficult days, it never occurred to me to ask St. Pio to intercede for my healing.
One afternoon, my Superior came to visit me in the hospital. She brought with her a photograph of the newly completed Monte de Sto. Pio at Mt. La Verna, with its majestic 30-foot statue of St. Pio overlooking the surrounding landscape.
As I looked at the photograph, I became deeply emotional. I remembered the years of planning and prayer that had gone into the project, and seeing it finally completed filled my heart with gratitude. Tears flowed from my eyes as I silently thanked God for allowing this dream to become a reality.
That evening, while I was asleep, God granted me an unforgettable experience.
In my dream, I found myself inside a large church filled with sick people. Each person held a lighted candle. St. Pio stood in the sanctuary, welcoming everyone who came to him with faith. One by one, the patients approached him. After he prayed over each one, the flame of that person’s candle was mysteriously extinguished—a sign that healing had been granted.
When my turn came, I noticed something different. While everyone else carried only one candle, I was holding four lighted candles.
I knelt before St. Pio. With great tenderness, he placed his warm hand upon my head. Instantly, I felt a powerful warmth spreading throughout my body, like a gentle current of electricity flowing from my head to my feet. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced.
When I stood up, I looked at my candles. They were still burning.
I wondered, “Perhaps I have not been healed.”
As I walked toward the place where the candles were to be placed, I looked again. This time, every flame had gone out.
At that moment, an unexplainable peace filled my heart. Deep within me, I knew that God had heard my prayer through the intercession of St. Pio.
A few moments later, I awoke.
It was exactly four o’clock in the morning.
I felt the need to go to the comfort room. My niece, who had faithfully stayed by my bedside, was fast asleep. Carefully, I tried to move my feet.
To my amazement, they moved.
Slowly, I pushed myself up from the bed. For the first time since my stroke, I was able to stand on my own. Step by step, I walked carefully to the bathroom.
When my niece woke up and saw my bed empty, she became alarmed and immediately began calling my name. Imagine her surprise and joy when she saw me walking out of the bathroom without anyone assisting me.
Only then did I fully realize the miracle that God had worked in my life.
Within a few days, I was discharged from the hospital. Day by day, my strength continued to return. Every step I took became a reminder of God’s healing love.
I firmly believe that the healing touch I experienced in my dream was God’s grace working through the loving intercession of St. Pio. Whether one calls it a miracle or an extraordinary grace, I know with all my heart that God answered my deepest need.
This experience strengthened my faith and taught me that the saints continually intercede for us before God. St. Pio never points us to himself; rather, he always leads us to Jesus Christ, the Divine Physician who heals both body and soul.
Today, every time I pray the Rosary and the Litany to St. Pio at Monte de Sto. Pio, I do so with a heart overflowing with gratitude. My presence there is not merely a duty—it is my thanksgiving to God for the gift of healing and a witness to His enduring mercy.
I offer this testimony not to draw attention to myself but to glorify God and to encourage anyone carrying the burden of illness, suffering, or discouragement. Never lose hope. Trust in God’s perfect timing. Pray with faith, persevere in hope, and seek the intercession of the saints. God continues to perform wonderful works in the lives of those who place their trust in Him.
May this testimony inspire many pilgrims and devotees who visit Monte de Sto. Pio to deepen their faith, renew their hope, and experience the loving presence of God in their own lives.
To God be all the glory.
St. Pio of Pietrelcina, pray for us always!
