Everybody wants resurrection power, but no one talks about the dying first.
“Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” — John 12:24 ESV
Before there was resurrection, there was the cross.
Before glory, there was suffering.
Before fruitfulness, there was death.
The death and burial of JESUS CHRIST were not the end. They were necessary for His glorification. The grain had to die so life could come forth.
And the same truth applies to us.
We cannot expect spiritual fruit while still holding on to our old selves. We cannot keep living for the world and expect to grow in Christ at the same time.
To follow JESUS is to die daily.
To let go of pride.
To surrender sin.
To bury the version of ourselves that lived without Him.
Because salvation is not just making your old life better.
It is becoming a new creation in Him.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
When we surrender our lives to CHRIST, we are born again. And through the HOLY SPIRIT, we are continually sanctified so we may bear fruit that glorifies God.
JESUS also said,
“Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.” — John 12:25 ESV
This does not mean hating ourselves. God created us with purpose and value.
It means surrendering our lives fully to the One who created them.
It means understanding that this world is not our home.
We are pilgrims and sojourners passing through. Our true home is with Him.
To “hate” our life in this world is to stop living as though this temporary world is all there is. It is choosing God over self, eternity over comfort, and obedience over control.
And if we follow Him, we must serve Him.
Not because serving saves us,
but because we are saved to serve Him.
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve…” — Mark 10:45 ESV
True Christianity is not just believing in JESUS.
It is following Him.
Serving Him.
Obeying Him.
Living for Him.
And JESUS gives this promise:
“If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.” — John 12:26 ESV
The reward of following CHRIST is not the applause of the world, but the honor that comes from the FATHER.
So let the old self die.
Let Christ take the throne of your life.
And let the HOLY SPIRIT grow in you a life that finally bears fruit for the glory of God.
