Fact #12: 𝑱𝒆𝒔𝒖𝒔 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕 𝒂𝒔𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝑯𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒉𝒆𝒅 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅.
We have to clarify that Jesus did not come down from heaven because “this world is better than heaven”.
He came down “temporarily” to obey the will of God the Father. Once has done that, there’s no further reason to stay.
We can also see this in life. There are work-related travels. Travel might seem to be a perk, and you get to experience this and that, but we can all testify that we are still excited to go home.
Let's now dig deep to understand Fact #12.
First of all, Fact #12 is connected to Fact #11. As we have mentioned in Fact #11, Jesus do not belong to this world.
This means that Jesus is not like us who is created for this world nor made of dust to return to dust.
Yes, Jesus is fully human, but remember he is also fully God. This is one of the amazing things about Jesus. His humanity does not deny that He is God.
Let's look at the verses . . .
𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝟏:𝟏-𝟑
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.”
𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡: 𝐉𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞.
𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟏:𝟖
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
𝐓𝐑𝐔𝐓𝐇: 𝐉𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞.
These two truths about Jesus could never be true to anyone else.
The next thing we have to understand is found through this question: WHAT DID JESUS EXPERIENCE WHILE HE WAS ON THIS WORLD⁉️
One word can actually sum it up - SUFFERING.
Let's look at three key verses:
𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐰 𝟏𝟕:𝟏𝟕
“O unbelieving and perverse generation!” Jesus replied. “How long must I remain with you? How long must I put up with you?”
This verse tells us that Jesus was putting up with tthe unbelieving and perverse generation.
Do you know that the words “put up” in Greek is sometimes translated as “suffer”? Other words like “endure” or “tolerate” are used for it as well.
In other words, Jesus was already in suffering because of the unbelieving and perverse generation. He did not just suffer on the cross.
Because if it was enjoyable or a good experience, then the Bible will not use the word "put up".
𝐈𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐚𝐡 𝟓𝟑:𝟑
“He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.”
This verse tells us that Jesus was a man of suffering. Jesus was man familiar with pain. This is the reason why he can sympathize with us.
Now, this verse is strongly connected to the crucifixion of Jesus. The crucifixion all the more proves that Jesus experience many SUFFERINGS on this world.
CONGRATULATIONS IF YOU HAVE REACHED THIS PART. One last verse before you go.
𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝟐:𝟔-𝟕
"Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!"
This passage tells us that Jesus is this - “Who, being in very nature God . . .”.
Jesus came down from heaven because Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus ascended to heaven because he belongs to heaven.
Now, how shall we describe heaven? There are many descriptions, but one important description is that it’s a place without sin and the presence of sin.
In other words, HEAVEN is place where there is no SUFFERING.
Revelation 21:4 says, “He (referring to God) will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
WOW💢💥 Though Jesus dwelt eternally in heaven, a place devoid of suffering, He chose to come down into our broken world where he experienced great suffering.
HOW?? WHY!!
In Philippians 2:6-7, it says there that Jesus “did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage”.
This means that Jesus did not “hang on to” His divine status. He emptied himself which means Jesus “let go of it”.
Heaven is the place of God, and that’s where he belongs, that's his advantage. But, in order to save us, he came down to this world to suffer. He "let go" of heaven
That’s why we said . . .
Jesus did not come down from heaven because “this world is better than heaven”.
He came down “temporarily” to obey the will of God the Father even though it will be filled with suffering.
Once he has finished that, there’s no further reason to stay.
Jesus desired his “ascension” because it would end his sufferings, and it shows to all of us that “heaven is really a much better place”.
JESUS CHRIST ASCENDED BECAUSE HE HAS FINISHED HIS WORK. Amen!
