astNEWSFLASH | The Altar Server Tribune with Archdiocese of Ozamis, Martin Jumoad, and Archdiocesan Marian Shrine of the Birhen sa Cotta - Archdiocese of Ozamis

CANONICAL CORONATION - Yesterday and Today are the days that the Lord has made! Yesterday, May 16, our shepherd of the Archdiocese , Most Rev. Martin S. Jumoad D.D. announced during a Mass for the 37th DOPIM - CCRM Convention, that the Nuestra Señora de la Inmaculada Concepción y del Triunfo de la Cruz de Migpangi, also known as the Birhen sa Cotta, is scheduled for its Canonical Coronation on 8th of July, 2026, 8 days before the Feast of the Birhen sa Cotta.

The Birhen sa Cotta, formally known as Nuestra Señora de la Inmaculada Concepción y del Triunfo de la Cruz de Migpangi, is a centuries-old Marian image venerated in Ozamiz City. Brought by Spanish Jesuit missionaries in the mid-1700s, the image was originally enshrined at the Fuerte de la Concepcion y del Triunfo, locally called the “Cotta,” which served as a fortress protecting the area from raids along Panguil Bay. Over time, devotion to the Birhen sa Cotta grew among the faithful, who attributed miracles and protection to her intercession, making her one of the most beloved religious icons in Northern Mindanao. The original image mysteriously disappeared in 1975 and remained missing for more than four decades until it was rediscovered in Manila and solemnly returned to Ozamiz in 2017, an event celebrated by thousands of devotees as a historic and emotional homecoming.

This joyous celebration will be led by the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, His Excellency, Most Rev. Charles John Brown, D.D., , as the representative of the Holy Father this coming....

SACERDOTAL ANNIVERSARY | The Altar Server Tribune

APRIL 03 - Today, we celebrate in great jubilation as we commemorate the Sacerdotal Anniversary of His Excellency, Most Rev. Martin Jumoad D.D. On this exact date, he was ordained to the Priesthood in 1987. Eventually, he was then appointed by His late Holiness, Pope John Paul II as Prelate of Isabela, Basilan on Nov. 21, 2001, ushering him to the Episcopate. His episcopal ordination as the Third Bishop-Prelate of Isabela (Basilan) was held on Jan. 10, 2002 and installed on Jan. 12, 2002. He stayed in Basilan from then onwards, until his reassignment here in the Archdiocese of Ozamis, appointed by Pope Francis on October 4, 2016, succeeding Msgr. Jesus Dosado.

His life journey and his Ministry has been a gift to the Archdiocese. And we thank God for the gift of priesthood. May His Excellency be blessed with more years, and may God continue to guide him in his Episcopate as the Archdiocese continues to journey on its 75th Jubilee. We are thankful for the Lord that we a gifted with a caring Shepherd who continues to tend God's flock.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, YOUR EXCELLENCY!
