Happy 60th World Communications Day! Happy Feast Day, mga Ka-Soccom!

Every year on the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord, the Church celebrates the achievements of the communications media and focuses of how it can best use them to promote gospel values. Established by Pope Saint Paul VI in 1967, World Communications Day encourages us to reflect on the opportunities and challenges that the modern means of social communication (the press, motions pictures, radio, television and the internet) afford the Church to communicate the gospel message.

This year, Pope Leo XIV has chosen the theme "Preserving Human Faces and Voices". Human voices and faces are unique reflections of God’s love and dignity, and preserving them is essential to safeguarding humanity. Pope Leo XIV warns that artificial intelligence, by simulating voices and faces, risks undermining empathy, responsibility, and authentic relationships.

The Pope highlights dangers such as disinformation, deepfakes, and overreliance on AI, which can weaken creativity and critical thought. His message calls for a culture of digital discernment, encouraging responsible use of technology and education in media, information, and AI literacy, especially for young people.

PRAYER
May the Lord Jesus, the pure Word poured out from the heart of the Father, help us to make our communication clear, open and heartfelt.
May the Lord Jesus, the Word made flesh, help us listen to the beating of hearts, to rediscover ourselves as brothers and sisters, and to disarm the hostility that divides.
May the Lord Jesus, the Word of truth and love, help us speak the truth in charity, so that we may feel like protectors of one another.
Lord Jesus Christ, guard us from illusions that distort Your presence. Help us to use technology wisely, but to always seek You in the living face of our neighbor, in the sacraments of the Church, and in the quiet of prayer. Amen.
