Guarding your heart

Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

What happens when your heart is unguarded?
2 Samuel 11:2-15 ; 2 Samuel 12:1-10

1. Unguarded hearts has the potential to be wounded deeply
2. Unguarded hearts is prone to disgracefulness
3. Unguarded hearts leads to sin

How to guard our hearts?

1. Choose your companions wisely

1 Corinthians 15:33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2. Flee when all else fails

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

2 Timothy 2:22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

3. Read your bible. Meditate on it

Psalms 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

4. Pray without ceasing

Luke 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
