We have this confidence in Him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. – 1 John 5:14

We must remember that it is not just about asking for anything, but it is when we ask for something according to God’s will that He listens to us. Like a parent caring for a child, God hears our prayers and decides what is in our best interest before granting or denying us anything. Unanswered prayers are not an act of cruelty but stem from love and promise — that we were made for a different path but nonetheless with a better and brighter end. It is through our faith in His plans for the greater good of everyone where we will find peace of heart, mind and spirit.

Do you focus more on what you do not have or what you have been given?

Lord, grant me the strength to let go of things that were not meant to be and the wisdom to appreciate the blessings that were given me.

“Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.” Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him, and said, “I do will it. Be made clean.” Luke 5:12-13

Jesus has power over the sins and maladies afflicting the human body and spirit. Why doesn’t God just get rid of them? There is no simple answer other than to trust in what God chooses to do and what He chooses not to do. He does not want any of us to suffer. However, suffering will always be part of our human existence because sin has made this so. Jesus had to suffer for our salvation and we cannot avoid suffering in our lives.

Lord, You who created every cell in our body can also recreate every damaged one. We trust You to heal our every sickness. Amen.

What are you afraid of? How do you face moments of fear?

Life is a call to courage. It is a call to the heights of sanctity, understood as intimacy with God. The good psalmist understood it when he prayed: “I lift up my eyes to the mountains, from where shall come my help. My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.”

Dear Lord, teach me how to be brave and courageous, to meet every difficulty and especially the unknown, relying on the victory that You have won for me.
