I have loved this painting by James Christensen for many years. The Responsible Woman.
She appears to be balancing many different things - children, pets, cooking, cleaning, the development of talents and gifts, and then, of course, there is time. Is there ever enough?
The things you are juggling may be similar, or they may be different. An inbox that is overflowing with demands, physical or mental health challenges, loneliness, finances – we all have something.
Despite the demands on her time and on her energy, she looks forward with faith. She lights the way for others to follow. She knows the direction she wants to go.
She appears to be a woman much like the women President Nelson pled for us to become.
“We need women who know how to make important things happen by their faith and who are courageous defenders of morality and families in a sin-sick world. We need women who are devoted to shepherding God’s children along the covenant path toward exaltation; women who know how to receive personal revelation, who understand the power and peace of the temple endowment; women who know how to call upon the powers of heaven to protect and strengthen children and families; women who teach fearlessly….
We need women who have a bedrock understanding of the doctrine of Christ and who will use that understanding to teach and help raise a sin-resistant generation.”
Is she perfect, this responsible woman? No – but she’s trying. It’s what we do!
