Pope Leo XIV appointed Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly as a member of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life on Aug. 25.

Established in 2016 by Pope Francis, the dicastery promotes the vocation and mission of the lay faithful, the pastoral care of young people, the family and the elderly, and the protection of human life. Its responsibilities also include organizing World Youth Days and support for lay movements and associations throughout the Church. The dicastery is headed by Cardinal Kevin J. Farrell, a former state chaplain of Texas.

Today we celebrate the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, honoring Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth.

Mary’s queenship points us always to her Son. She is the humble handmaid who said yes to God, the faithful mother who stood at the foot of the Cross, and the Queen who continues to lead us closer to Christ.

On this feast, may we follow her example of faith, humility and loving service, entrusting our families, our Church and our world to her maternal care.
