๐ Our First Couplesโ Evening โ Understanding Marriage
Last night, we began our journey by establishing a Biblical understanding of marriageโlooking at what Godโs Word teaches about marriage and His design for it.
โข God as the Designer of Marriage โ Marriage was instituted by God from the beginning. (Genesis 2:18โ25)
โข Marriage as a Good Thing โ Marriage is designed by God to bless, benefit, and enrich our lives, even in the midst of challenges. (Proverbs 18:22)
โข Marriage as an Institution to Be Honored โ Marriage and the intimacy within it are to be treated with honor, purity, and reverence. (Hebrews 13:4)
โข Marriage as a Solemn Covenant and Promise โ Marriage is a lifelong covenant made through vows before God, who is a witness to that commitment. (Malachi 2:13โ14)
โข Marriage as a Union of Two โ Husband and wife are called to become one, growing in relationship, companionship, agreement, complementing one another, unity, and intimacy. (Genesis 2:24; Ephesians 5:31โ32)
โข Marriage as a Lifelong Journey of Love โ Marriage is a commitment to remain faithful and to love, honor, and care for one another for a lifetime. (Matthew 19:6)
The lesson also challenged us to examine our own understanding of marriage, recognize opinions that may differ from what Scripture teaches, and consider why a husband and wife should pursue becoming one.
