St. James, son of Zebedee and brother of John, is called "Greatโ€œ or โ€œElderโ€ to distinguish him from the other apostle James. He belonged to the inner circle of Jesusโ€™ apostles who exclusively witnessed three events - the raising of Jairusโ€™ daughter, the transfiguration, and the agony in the garden. Tradition says that he preached the Gospel in Spain. He was the first apostle to be martyred and the only one whose martyrdom is in the Bible.

They were 16 Discalced Carmelite nuns who were guillotined during the anti-Catholic French Revolution. They were led by St. Therese of St. Augustine. They separated into 4 groups and lived in different houses. After two years, all of them were arrested and jailed together. On the day of their ex*****on, they sang a Latin hymn. Then, each one approached St. Therese and said, โ€œPermission to die, Motherโ€ before climbing the stage.

The devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel started when some crusaders stayed and lived as hermits on Mount Carmel. Later, those hermits became a community of monks and they chose Mary as their patron. They are now the Carmelites. Mary appeared to St. Simon Stock, a leader of the Carmelites, and asked him to wear a piece of brown cloth over his shoulder (scapula in Latin). Hence, the devotion to the brown scapular began.

Today we also celebrate the 15th Parochial Anniversary of our sister parish, San Guillermo de Maleval Parish of Iponan, we extend our greetings and felicitations to the faithful parishioners.
