THROUGH THE BIBLE WE ARE NOW ON NUMBERS PART 7…

The God Who Leads – Follow Him

I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt to be your God. I am the Lord your God.
Numbers 15:41 (NIV)

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Matthew 6:33 (ESV)

It is a common sight to see flocks of seabirds follow fishing boats across the sea, knowing the promise of food supply, optimizing on the upturn waves to fish, and riding upon the air power of the bow wave from the boat for their journey.

In Numbers 14-15, the Israelites rebelled in their hearts against God, clouded by the fear and disappointment of negative reports of what they had heard of Canaan and wanted to go their own way. Despite the many miraculous interventions and provisions of God throughout their journey, they had forgotten the One who had promised. They continuously focused on their temporal life rather than on their eternal inheritance. Who and what are we following today? Didn’t our Heavenly Father say that He is our God…that we are to seek Him above all things…that all our needs and concerns are met in Jesus who has overcome?

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your covenantal love, for pursuing us despite all our failings. Help us to rely upon the power of Your love and Your holy spirit, lead us to be overcomers through Jesus, a people set apart for Your Kingdom purposes and influence. In Jesus’ name. Amen

THROUGH THE BIBLE: Numbers Part 6

Emmanuel – God With Us

With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
Numbers 12:8 (NIV)

We find the pressures of being a leader weighing heavily on Moses as he had to constantly face the complaints of the Israelites and had to intercede with the Lord on their behalf.

Right through the journey in the wilderness prior to this as well we see the Lord constantly being with and supporting Moses in every situation.
When Miriam and Aaron talked against Moses, we see the Lord himself coming down and admonishing them for speaking against their God-appointed Leader.

Isn’t it heartening and reassuring to see that when you are in the centre of God’s will, there is no better person than God Himself to be your defendant? It takes courage to remain in the centre of God’s will, but when we do make that choice, the rewards are high, as the Lord promises to be with us and strengthen us.

Throughout the Bible, we find instances where those that chose to remain in the centre of God’s plan always experienced the hand of the Lord upon them and realised that there is no better person than the Lord Himself to take them through it. He is still Emmanuel, God with us.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, no matter how difficult or uncertain the situation may look like, help me to always choose to be in the centre of Your will, for I know that You are always by my side and strengthening me to get through it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

THROUGH THE BIBLE: Numbers Part 5

The Privilege to be Set Apart for God
Take the Levites from among all the Israelites and make them ceremonially clean. To purify them, do this: Sprinkle the water of cleansing on them; then have them shave their whole bodies and wash their clothes. And so they will purify themselves.
Numbers 8:6,7
For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. Out of all the peoples on the face of the earth, the Lord has chosen you to be his treasured possession.
Deuteronomy 14:2

The Levites are a beautiful picture of You and I. Like the Levites, we are redeemed, cleansed, and set apart as the firstborn for the service to our Lord. By their example, the Levites were a symbol of the godly separation of believers from the world. Today all believers are a priest likes the Levites in Old Testament.
Jesus is the lamb of God who cleansed us so that we are righteous before a holy God through our faith. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.

Prayer:
Abba Father, thank You that we are chosen before the foundation of this world to be wholly set apart for You. May we abide in You and be guided by Your Word and Your Spirit. We desire to remain close to You at all times and not separate ourselves from Your protection and will. Help us to be in this world and not of this world. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
