Reading the Bible has been the least common thing to be done in our time, even by the modern Christian. Some say they read the Bible, only to find out that what they mean is that they see verses popping out on TikTok. Or maybe a verse in a Facebook post, maybe a verse on someoneโs bio. Some so that they see verses, download an app that pops up verses on the screen. The longest time one would hear of Godโs word could even be only on a Sunday service. Yet then we ask ourselves, โWhy canโt I hear God?โ, or โWhy do I feel sorrowful?โ
Bible reading has been more of a searching for an inspirational quote than what it really ought to beโa necessity. People quoting and having โlife versesโ but not even knowing what the verses really mean. Verses have been finger-picked according to one's own preferences totally distorting its point. Is this how we ought to approach Godโs word?
People literally bled, were killed, and some were burned alive so that you could read your Bible. Yet only to be left on the corner of your room as a design, an app never to be downloaded on your devices. Did they die in vain? To the reader, I hope to encourage you to read your Bible and that you may see its value.

Iโd like to give 3 simple reasons why you should read the Bible(there are many other reasons), to atleast give a glance of why we ought to.
1. ๐๐ ๐ถ๐ ๐๐ผ๐ฑโ๐ ๐ช๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฑ (2Tim 3:16โAll Scripture is breathed out by Godโฆ)
The same word that God commanded to create the universe is the same word that is in our Bibles (Gen.1โGod saidโฆand it was so). The same power in creation, the same in the written word. The same breath that brought life to man (Gen2:7), is the same breath in the word that too brings life to one.
It is the same word by which He talks to us. Some of us desire to hear God's voice, waiting for a calm voice whispered in your ear, but I tell you the Bible is Godโs Word. If you desire to hear him, then take up and read.
2. ๐๐ ๐ถ๐ ๐ฎ ๐ก๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ(John 8:31-32, Prov. 2:1-5, 2Tim 2:15)
I say โNecessaryโ because Bible reading is the ordinary means by which God brings us to faith in Christ.โโSo faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christโ[Romans 10:17]. Earlier in the text Paul mentions how can they believe if they donโt hear the word(Romans 10:14). The Word is also necessary for our growth in holiness: โSanctify them in the truth; your word is truthโ (John 17:17). Just as bread sustains the body, so the Word sustains the soul: โMan shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of Godโ (Matt. 4:4,Duet.8:3)
Bible reading is not merely a suggestion or a helpful habit; it is a command given by God to His people. Jesus Himself said, โIf you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you freeโ (John 8:31โ32). Likewise, Joshua was instructed, โThis Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in itโ (Josh. 1:8). Paul exhorts believers to โrightly handle the word of truthโ (2 Tim. 2:15). These passages remind us that reading, meditating, and obeying Scripture is not optionalโit is the very means by which God shapes His people. To neglect His Word is to disobey His revealed will, but to delight in it is both obedience and joy?
Of all the many promises that God gives to those that seek him in His word, Iโd give a couple few in the psalms of what the word of God does. It could be the answer to your troubles now, to the struggles that entangle you.
Scripture declares that it revives the soul, makes wise the simple, rejoices the heart, and enlightens the eyes (Ps. 19:7โ9). It keeps oneโs way pure (Ps. 119:9) and grants great peace to those who love Godโs law, so that nothing can make them stumble (Ps. 119:165). Yet these promises are not mechanical rewards for the mere act of reading; they are blessings given by God through His Word as it points us to Christ.
But it is not actually just reading so that you can gain these promises, but that you may see Christ. We read because of the great and wonderful work of Jesus Christ that sinners may be saved. And this is eternal life, that they know youโฆ(John 17:3). We read so that we would know more of God and how we ought to live in light of what he says. We can not please God if we do not know what He wants. And on the other side, it is a great insult to neglect His word.
To end, Iโd like to quote from J.I.Packer

May we not be a generation that leaves the Bible unread. May we be a people who prize it above gold, sweeter than honey, and richer than life itself.
