“WHY DO YOU LOOK FOR THE LIVING AMONG THE DEAD?” Luke 24:1–9
— Pstr. Don Ganhinhin
At early dawn, while it was still quiet and heavy with grief, the women came to the tomb carrying spices, an act of love, devotion, and honor for Jesus. Their hearts were full of sorrow, their minds fixed on loss. They came expecting to find a lifeless body.
But what they found was something completely unexpected. The stone was rolled away. The tomb was empty.
In their confusion and fear, two angels appeared and asked a question that would change everything:
“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; He has risen.”
In that moment, grief turned into revelation. Fear gave way to faith. And what seemed like the end became the beginning of a living hope.
4 Important Truths from the encounter of the women:
1. They came with the wrong expectation (v.1)
They came expecting a dead Jesus. Even in their love and devotion, they misunderstood what Jesus had already promised.
➡️ Truth: You can love Jesus and still misunderstand His power.
➡️ Sometimes, we approach God with limited expectations, forgetting that He is able to do far more than we imagine.
➡️ You cannot find life in something that is spiritually dead—stop going back to places, habits, and mindsets where God has already brought you out.
2. He is Risen (v.6a)
The angels declared the greatest truth of all: He is not here; He has risen.
➡️ Christianity is not built on a memory, but on a living Savior.
➡️ Jesus is not just someone we remember—He is Someone we experience daily.
➡️ Because He lives, our hope is alive, our faith is anchored, and our future is secure.
3. Remember how He told you (vv.6–7)
The angels reminded the women of Jesus’ own words—that He would be crucified and rise again on the third day.
➡️ Truth: Faith is often restored not by something new, but by remembering what God has already said.
➡️ Many believers today are not lacking faith—they are simply forgetting the promises of God.
➡️ When doubt comes, go back to His Word. When fear arises, hold on to His promises.
4. A resurrection encounter is a living testimony (v.9)
After encountering the truth, the women didn’t stay silent—they ran and told the others.
➡️ Truth: A real encounter with the risen Christ always leads to action.
➡️ You cannot truly meet Jesus and remain the same.
➡️ Your testimony becomes a message of hope, life, and victory to others.
The resurrection is not just an event—it is an invitation.
An invitation to move from death to life, from fear to faith, from confusion to clarity, and from silence to proclamation.
Today, the same question echoes in our hearts:
Why do you look for the living among the dead?
Stop searching for peace in empty things.
Stop returning to what God has already redeemed you from.
Stop settling for less when Jesus has already secured victory for you.
Jesus is alive, and because He lives, we live in victory!
Let us rise in faith, walk in truth, and boldly proclaim:
“ The tomb is empty. The Savior is alive!”
To God be the glory!
