"The biblical Creation story tells us why the Sabbath stands above all other days. The Sabbath makes it clear that we are not the result of a cosmic accident but rather children of a personal God. After God created Adam and Eve on the sixth day, all was done—or so it seemed.

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array (Genesis 1:31–2:1, NIV).

This verse states, “the heavens and the earth were completed.” Adam and Eve did not say, “God, You forgot something—a day is missing.” Creation, so it seemed, was complete. What followed was unexpected.

“Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done” (Genesis 2:3, NIV).

God’s blessing of the seventh day is a surprise. But God is a God of surprises—good surprises!"

Is it your birthday? Perhaps your first day in school? Each of us has days we remember and cherish. There is another day that is more important than all of these days put together.
That day is the Sabbath. The Sabbath? Yes, that day, the seventh or last day of the week, according to the Bible. The Sabbath, as a day, is not the most important day unless we realize who gave it to us and understand its meaning."

"Sabbath is all about resting in Jesus, not trying to earn salvation by works but believing in His merits and being justified by faith. That is why those who did not believe could not enter God’s rest. And what a better picture of justification by faith than Sabbath rest? On Sabbath, we do not work, just as we do not work in order to earn salvation. The purpose of the Sabbath is to deepen our relationship with God, and that is the core of justification by faith.

Hence, the Sabbath is a monument of justification of faith, a weekly celebration of receiving salvation through faith in Jesus, not earning it by works. Hallelujah! Learning this has been a blessed experience for me. I see Jesus in the Sabbath as never before, and thus I experience more love and joy."

"I am grateful to be a part of the Seventh-day Adventist community. It has been amazing growing up and learning different Bible stories. As I have grown older, it feels like I have become more distant from God. Some terrible things have happened in my life, and it is hard not to blame Him for them. The things that have gone wrong in my life are obviously not God’s fault, but I often seem to blame Him anyway. I just do not know where else to direct my anger. I feel bad, turning against the One who loves me unconditionally. I use the Sabbath to help me with this problem. Every day we learn more and more about God’s love and how much He cares for us. The Sabbath reminds me that I have to put my faith in what God does because He wants only what is best for me."

"Sabbath is a love story filled with romance. It is love in three dimensions: rest/security, blessing/worth, and holiness/unity. We found that Jesus practiced these principles in His Sabbath observance, and we decided to pattern our Sabbaths after His example.
So began our study of “Sabbaths With Jesus.” The result was engaging in acts of God—reaching out to the sick in visitation, lifting others’ burdens with a helping hand, sharing the hope of His promises, and talking about our mission as Jesus did in His home church. He was not passive or boring on Sabbath, and that inspired us to be active as well.

"At sunset, alone in my hotel room, I poured out all my anxiety to God. Up to that point, I had done what I could to prepare for the evangelistic series, but from a human point of view, the situation was grim. Then, when the blessed hours of Sabbath arrived, I said to God, “Lord, this day is the Sabbath, but my heart is heavy over this situation. Give me your rest, oh God, and put peace in my heart.”
At that moment, I felt a gentle breeze coming through the window and blowing on my face. I cried. And when I got up, I felt as if a heavy load had come off my back. I went to the bathroom and looked at my face in the mirror. My eyes reflected peace and joy; God’s Sabbath had come into my life."

"In light of my recent personal discovery, I began wondering: To what extent are we crowding out the blessings of the Sabbath that the Creator intends to give us each week? Being too busy on the Sabbath day robs us of the shalom that the Sabbath, as a divine institution, is meant to provide. Sabbath, a sign of freedom in Christ, is given as a gift that we receive every seventh day, but what are we doing with this gift? Do we take time to receive the Sabbath and be blessed?"

"Sabbath comes as an invitation to freedom. It is an opportunity to slow down, stop, and distance myself from the pressures of life while tuning in to the frequency on which God can be heard and experienced. Sabbath also provides me with the opportunity to spend quality time with my family and friends, bringing me great joy. I rediscovered Sabbath as a day of refreshing, a day that, according to Jesus, “was made for humankind, and not humankind for the sabbath” (Mark 2:27, NRSV)."
