WHO CAN I RESCUE TODAY?

In times like these, there is a great need for rescuers—both physical and spiritual. In some parts of Bicol region, there is a great need of rescuers, food, shelter, clothes, water supplies, and saving. It is still not too late to send help!

But did you know? We have a legacy of being rescuers!
Here are a couple examples.

Imagine being trapped in a storm for days without food or shelter. How would it feel to finally see someone come to help?

At October general conference in 1856, Brigham Young sent the Saints on a rescue mission! He had received news that more than a thousand pioneers were trapped in ice and snow.

“They must be brought here,” President Young said. “Your faith, religion, and profession of religion will never save one soul of you in the Celestial Kingdom of our God, unless you carry out just such principles as I am now teaching you. Go and bring in those people now on the plains.”

In other words: saying you’re Christian doesn’t mean much unless you act to alleviate suffering, the way Christ would!

As Latter-day Saints, we have a legacy of being rescuers and bringing others to the Savior!

📌 The Ocampo Ward is open for drop-off donations like clothes and food to be transported to needy places. Please don’t hesitate to send us a message for more information.

Different reactions to the same trials. Which will we choose?

Scripture of the Day: “But behold, because of the exceedingly great length of the war between the Nephites and the Lamanites many had become hardened, because of the exceedingly great length of the war; and many were softened because of their afflictions, insomuch that they did humble themselves before God, even in the depth of humility.” —Alma 62:41

This verse spells out something that is shown over and over again in the Book of Mormon: that different people can have different reactions to the same events.

Laman and Lemuel grew up in the same righteous household as Nephi and Sam, with the same loving parents. They traveled through the wilderness and to the promised land together. Yet Laman and Lemuel were hardened by their afflictions and fell away, while Nephi and Sam stayed on the path.

Some people react to trials by complaining and turning bitter. Other people react to the same trials by seeking the Lord’s help and exercising faith.

The long war between the Nephites and Lamanites had devastated both nations. Some people came out of the experience better, stronger, and more dedicated to God. Others came out of it hardened and angry.

How will you respond to your challenges?

𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗭𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗲𝘀?

What will your resurrected body be like? Here are five things we know.

Zombie movies are pretty popular today. You know, where people die but then come back to life as a gross, decomposing, half-dead humanoid?

Well, it’s true that death is not the end of our existence. Knowing that our spirit and body will be reunited someday is one of the most reassuring teachings of the gospel! But the Resurrection will be nothing like a zombie movie.

Scriptures and modern prophets teach us that resurrected bodies are:

𝗣𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹. That means we will have flesh and bones.1
𝗜𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗹. We will never get sick or die again.2

𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱. “Deformity will be removed; defects will be eliminated,” President Joseph F. Smith once explained, “and men and women shall attain to the perfection of their spirits, to the perfection that God designed in the beginning.”3

𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘂𝗹. President Lorenzo Snow said, “There is nothing more beautiful to look upon than a resurrected man or woman.”4

𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗷𝗼𝘆. Celestial glory becomes possible once you’re resurrected.5

Isn’t that awesome?! Thanks to the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we have a lot to look forward to.

𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗹 𝗼𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱. (Depending on why you want it and how you use it!)

A rich young man once asked Jesus what he needed to do to have eternal life. Jesus told the young man to sell everything he had, give it to the poor, and follow the Savior.

After the man left, Jesus told His disciples, “How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!” Seeing their astonishment, the Savior reiterated: “How hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!” (Mark 10:23–24).

So... does being wealthy mean you can’t go to the celestial kingdom?

Notice the Lord’s phrasing the second time. It’s not being rich, necessarily, that’s the problem. It’s trusting in riches. Putting your wealth first. Focusing too much on that instead of on more important things.
In other words, money in and of itself is okay to work toward. But we should never let it become the most important thing in our lives! And we should use it to help others.

The Book of Mormon prophet Alma taught about this. He reminded his son, “Seek not after riches nor the vain things of this world; for behold, you cannot carry them with you” (Alma 39:14).

Money is necessary in our (non-celestial) world. It is not inherently bad—but it is not the reason we’re here, either. Focus on loving God and loving each other. That’s what the Lord wants us to remember! One way we can make sure not to get too obsessed with money is by 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 and 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀.
