THE JOURNEY CONTINUES

With this year's parish fiesta theme, "Walking Together as Family of God, Stewards of a Synodal Church," the PFTs, Cofradias, LOMAs, and liturgical ministers continue to visit chapels and BECs with the image of the Blessed Mother. It is a graced occasion to encounter the faithful of the Cathedral Parish, listen to them, and reflect with them on the mission of the Church, particularly on stewardship, synodality, and the cultivation of the basic ecclesial communities.

Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi and
he asked his disciples,
"Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"
They replied, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah,
still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
Simon Peter said in reply,
"You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
Jesus said to him in reply,
"Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah.
For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.
And so I say to you, you are Peter,
and upon this rock I will build my church,
and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven.
Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven;
and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
Then he strictly ordered his disciples
to tell no one that he was the Christ.

"Unity in mission means safeguarding and nurturing the spirituality of communion and missionary cooperation. By daily fostering this attitude, divine grace gradually teaches us to see our brothers and sisters through the eyes of faith. We also learn to recognize joyfully the good that the Spirit inspires in each person, to embrace diversity as a treasure, to bear one another’s burdens and always to seek the unity that comes from above. Indeed, we all share in one mission in “one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all” (Eph 4:5-6). This spirituality constitutes the daily expression of missionary discipleship. It helps us to recover a universal vision of the Church’s evangelizing mission, and to overcome a lack of coordinated efforts and the creation of factions among the followers of the one Lord — such as “I belong to Paul,” “I to Apollos” (cf. 1 Cor 1:10-12).

Needless to say, missionary unity should not be understood as uniformity, but rather as the convergence of different charisms for the same purpose, namely to make Christ’s love visible and to invite everyone to encounter him. Evangelization is achieved when local communities cooperate with one another and when cultural, spiritual and liturgical differences are fully and harmoniously expressed in the same faith. I therefore encourage all institutions in the Church to strengthen their sense of ecclesial missionary communion and to develop creative and concrete ways of cooperating with one another for and in the mission."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FR. ED!

Today, we join our beloved Fr. Eduardo Abanilla as he celebrates his birthday today. We thank the Lord for the gift of life He has graciously bestowed to Fr. Ed. We also thank Fr. Ed for offering his life for God and His people.

Let us pray for Fr. Ed's good health and more years in the priestly ministry.

A blessed birthday Fr. Ed!

At that time, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.
And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district came and called out,
"Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David!
My daughter is tormented by a demon."
But Jesus did not say a word in answer to her.
Jesus' disciples came and asked him,
"Send her away, for she keeps calling out after us."
He said in reply,
"I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."
But the woman came and did Jesus homage, saying, "Lord, help me."
He said in reply,
"It is not right to take the food of the children
and throw it to the dogs."
She said, "Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps
that fall from the table of their masters."
Then Jesus said to her in reply,
"O woman, great is your faith!
Let it be done for you as you wish."
And the woman's daughter was healed from that hour.

Unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." — Matthew 18:3

​Last night in Villacaneja, even as the power went out, the light of true faith shone brightly. In the middle of the darkness, this young child knelt in pure, unprompted reverence before the Lord.

​While adults can often get distracted by small inconveniences like a power outage or the heat, a child sees right to the heart of what matters: God’s presence. A beautiful reminder of the humble respect, awe, and devotion we are all called to offer. 🙏✨

SCENES FROM VISITADORA 2026

The Visitation of the Pilgrim Image of the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary to the various chapels and barangays under the care of the Cathedral Parish continues.

Through the joint efforts of the Parish Formation Team, Cofradias, Lay Organizations, Movements, and Associations, and the various liturgical ministries of the Parish, more faithful receive catechesis and basic faith formation sessions, basic orientation on the BECs. They also are given inputs on Stewardship and conversations in the Spirit follow afterwards.

More importantly, through these visitations, the faithful of the Parish rediscover the beauty of our devotion to the Blessed Mother through the praying of the Holy Rosary.

Our gratitude to all parish volunteers who spend time and effort to reach our brothers and sisters in the different parts of the Parish.

After he had fed the people, Jesus made the disciples get into a boat
and precede him to the other side,
while he dismissed the crowds.
After doing so, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray.
When it was evening he was there alone.
Meanwhile the boat, already a few miles offshore,
was being tossed about by the waves, for the wind was against it.
During the fourth watch of the night,
he came toward them walking on the sea.
When the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified.
“It is a ghost,” they said, and they cried out in fear.
At once Jesus spoke to them, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.”
Peter said to him in reply,
“Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”
He said, “Come.”
Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus.
But when he saw how strong the wind was he became frightened;
and, beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!”
Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught Peter,
and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
After they got into the boat, the wind died down.
Those who were in the boat did him homage, saying,
“Truly, you are the Son of God.”
